Don't forget that we have a long weekend this weekend with Monday (24 October) being a Public Holiday so, other than the community enjoying the outside facilities the school has to offer, no one will be around.

If you have made a booking, please don't forget to come along this week to our Amesbury Cultural Festival.
I've seen how engaged the tamariki are in this Module 3 Inquiry and it's obvious that they want to put on an educative display for all of their whānau.

This Term's Activities
A reminder of what we have happening this term. There are many ways to see what is happening at Amesbury this term:
There's plenty happening in such a short term so Urs has put together a list of events in Term 4 with some information about each. Please read through it and note in your calendar any of the items that relate to you.
One of the activities on the list is the Amesbury School Community Evening on Friday 18 November. One of the features of the evening will be the yummy hangi being put on by CJS Hangi - known as the tastiest in Wellington. Orders are now open on Kindo, but please be aware that there is a limited number available. For their part, CJS Hangi will also provide Amesbury with a share of the sales which will go towards the design of the Pou in our new build - something everyone will benefit from.

Car park Reminder
We have had several incidents recently of near misses or dangerous situations in the car park, all involving driver inattention to surroundings.
We have a lot of young tamariki around the car park area after school, and they are still learning the basics of road safety. Our tamariki tend to feel very safe in and around the car park, and don't always pay as much attention as they should. It is up to adults using this space to be extremely mindful of this, and take it into account when we drive. It is really important that we all:
Essentially, please drive as if you expect a child to do the unexpected, and that way you can be ready to respond quickly. If another person picks up your tamariki in a vehicle at times, please ensure they are aware of this and know the information in our car park procedure. Thanks.
Poetry Writing Competition - entries close on Wednesday (26 October)
The Inaugural Churton Park Poetry Writing Competition is happening.
Tamariki, from both Amesbury & Churton Park Schools, are invited to submit their poems - on any subject - by 5pm on Wednesday 26th October.
The winners will be announced at an event at the Churton Park Community Centre (Kea Hall) on Friday 11th November from 5:45 - 6:45pm.
Thanks to the generosity of the Churton Park Community Association, we now have a $20 Whitcoulls voucher to go along with each 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in our three categories: year 1 and 2 tamariki, year 3 and 4 tamariki, and year 5 and 6 tamariki.

Book Fair
Our annual Book Fair is being held in November and, as part of the preparation, Kirat is looking for volunteers to look after the stand. The sessions are short so the commitment is not great. No experience necessary to apply.

Years 0-2 Junior Athletics Carnival - next Tuesday (1 November)
We have this year's Y0-2 Athletics Carnival on the morning of Tuesday 1 November. This is for all Y0-2 tamariki including those based in Harakeke.
Amaria has written a short article covering the admin side of the day, so if your tamariki are involved please have a look so that you know the when and what to bring information.

Senior Athletics Day 2022
For all of the details, results and photos please go to the link on the Senior Athletics Day that was held in the last week of last term.
You can also see who has qualified for the Northern Zone Athletics to be held on Monday 14 November. Eilís will shortly be in touch with those who have qualified with further details about Northern Zones.
Tennis League
Eilís is looking for interest in participating in a tennis league this term
Orange League is teams of 2 or 3 (gender neutral). Designed for kids aged 7-11. Smaller courts, shorter racquets, and super hittable balls which means kids can play and enjoy tennis from their first try. Racquets supplied.
Sunday afternoons. Everyone can play!

Battery Recycling
We have a large container full of used batteries that we've been saving for recycling rather than throwing in the rubbish bin. Please contact Rachel at the office if you're travelling by these locations and have time to help us out and drop them off?
Kelly Sports @ Amesbury - Tuesdays 3.05-4.05pm
A weekly multi sports programme that provides an essential base for children's motor skills and help build confidence and coordination.The programme gives children skills and confidence in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Football Skills for Term 4 - new day, now Wednesdays
Aimed for beginners, this is an 8 week football skills programme held at the Green Room, Wests Rugby Club Rooms, Ian Galloway Park, Wilton, on Wednesdays from 3.30-4.30pm.
Come and learn all about Football! This programme covers both individual and team skills including, Game rules, Ball control, Dribbling, Passing, Tackling,
Defence, Team work, Goalkeeping, practice and warm up drills for players and teams. It is ideal to improve skills and confidence.
It’s also great practice for the summer series football competition.
