Kia Ora, I’m Mike!
I have two children who attend Amesbury school; Rufus, Yr 4 and Regan (Meimei), Yr 1. Both of my children have thrived and blossomed and the school has become a key part of their community; from attending school, to taking extracurricular classes at the community hub and regularly playing within the school grounds!
Professionally, I am the Chief Operating Officer at RaboBank NZ, but prior to this have held senior executive roles in the Tech and Education sectors; mainly in roles related to operational effectiveness, delivery and technology/digital transformation.
My time at primary school was a hugely formative one that I still remember fondly; and it was heavily influenced by the quality of the teaching staff who helped me discover and explore what I really enjoyed. At the same time, the way we work, live and interact is changing rapidly and it’s my opinion that understanding digital trends and the future of work is crucial to our education system, as technology continues to shape our world. To adapt our education curriculum and systems effectively, we must anticipate these changes and integrate relevant skills, systems and ways of working into our schools - and it’s critical for our children to learn how to be digitally safe and how to disconnect and enjoy the real world!
Rufus and Regan are of European/Chinese descent and one of the critical benefits of the Amesbury School I see is the approach to cultural diversity and the application of Te Reo Maori and principles which are preparing my children for a modern, inclusive society in NZ.
I am passionate about using my experience to assist Amesbury School, its teachers, its students and its community to continue to foster creativity, adaptability, and a growth mindset that will prepare our children for lifelong learning.
Nga Mihi, Mike
