Whitby Collegiate Open Day Sunday 20 September 11am-1pm
Whitby Collegiate is the first co-educational, independent school in the Wellington region for Years 7-13. We believe in small classes, big thinking, individual attention and collective responsibility - all focused on helping children be the very best that they can be, in every aspect of their lives. There are easy transport links to school as our buses collect students from the Hutt Valley, Johnsonville, Churton Park, Tawa and Aotea, and connect with the train for students travelling from the Kapiti Coast.
Our Open Day is an opportunity for you to come along and enjoy a tour of our campus. To register for our Open Day visit our website whitbycollegiate.school.nz or call us on 04 2341070.
NZ Marine Studies Centre
In this month’s newsletter the NZ Marine Studies Centre would like to introduce you to ‘SOAK’!
What is Soak, you ask? Soak is the loveable, but unreliable, pied cormorant/shag behind a new series of short videos on the Marine Environment brought to you by the NZ Marine Studies Centre.
Soak and our Nelson educator, Richard de Hamel, explore everything from fish to plankton. Each 4 minute video ends with questions to discuss and an accompanying sheet with a variety of ‘student ready’ related extension ideas, questions or activities all whimsically illustrated by light-hearted cartoons.
You can check out more information on the series in our newsletter here.

Te Moana Glow Show
Wellington October 26-28 @ 10am & 11.30am daily - Shed 6 three days only! Term 4 - Week 3 Book @ www.ticketmaster.co.nz $15.50pp + fees.
The Te Moana Glow Show is a giant scale puppet show for 2-10 year olds with magical glow-in-the-dark characters from Māori myth and legend. This innovative, cutting edge new concept features more than 40 glow-in-the-dark puppets under ultraviolet light in a black box theatre environment. The ALL NEW TE MOANA GLOW SHOW 2020 is set around the takutai moana (coastal sea) and Te moana-nui a-Kiwa (the Pacific Ocean), with the show being a delightful story about our kai moana and the whakataukī “He waka eke noa. We are all in this together.”
Rich in Te Reo Māori, it’s an upbeat show that has the audience buzzing from the onset. This masterful 45-minute show is underpinned by catchy music that engages the audience immediately, followed by a Q&A session afterwards for our tamariki. There’s an abundance of educational content to take back to the classroom. This production is suitable for special needs children.
