Learning Celebration - Wednesday 5 April

Our whole school Term 1 Learning Celebration is coming up in the afternoon of Wednesday Week 10 (5th April) at 1:30pm so please note it in your calendars

The theme of our current inquiry module has been - Living as my best self - and tamariki will be presenting what they have discovered and learnt this term.

Co-curricular Open Days - this week

Just a reminder for all whānau who have tamariki involved in our co-curricular programme  that we have Co-curricular Open Days this week - Wednesday 29th & Friday 31st.

The timetable has been sent to parents & caregivers, so if you are planning to come along - and we hope that you do - please check what time your tamariki's lessons are. We would ask that you come along early enough to sign in before the scheduled lesson start times so that the lessons are not disrupted. And please, don't forget to sign out before you leave.

If you have any questions please contact John (communications@amesbury.school.nz).

Dress up your Transport

As Movin' March draws to a close for 2023 this coming week, we are looking for a big finale as tamariki bring along their transport - bikes, scooters, shoes etc. We want them to 'dress them up' this Friday (31 March) and we will be holding a parade at lunchtime with spot prizes being awarded.

For more specific details have a look at Kirat's article.

*New* Halal friendly lunch orders

We're pleased to be adding a Halal friendly option to our lunch order range, and the menu also includes some vegan, vegetarian, and nut-free options.

We welcome both girls and boys to sign up for a chance to represent Amesbury school in a team sport. Games are played on Saturdays and the latest up-to-date schedule can be viewed here. The original article containing more details can be found here.

New Hockey Set donated to Amesbury

Sports, Education, Community & Cultural Foundation (SECC) has selected Amesbury School as a recipient for a brand new, child-friendly hockey set. The flash new set comprises a two wheeled bag, 30 x hockey sticks and 30 x hockey balls. What an amazing gift to our tamariki by SECC.

The foundation's goal is to provide sports equipment to schools to better equip them to allow children to easily engage with sporting activities to improve their health and wellbeing. The hockey set has generously been made available through the support of a grant from Air Rescue and Community Services.

We look forward to putting the new set to use next term with the first hockey lunchtime club. Keep an eye on the notices for which day it'll be taking place next term.

Our warmest Amesbury gratitude again to SECC.

Swimming Lessons & Waitohi Visit

You will already be aware that an email containing the swimming consent form for Term 2 has been circulated by whānau teachers in the last few weeks. Our thanks to those parents and caregivers who have already completed the form and we remind all others that the remaining outstanding forms should be completed by Thursday 30th March

  • Koru will complete their lessons over 8 consecutive weeks beginning on Thursday the 4th of May (Week 2) and ending on Thursday the 30th of June (Week 9). They will use the teaching pool at Johnsonville School.
  • Swimming lessons for our Harakeke & Pōhutukawa tamariki will take place on Mondays at the Keith Spry Pool, Johnsonville and the Rewa Rewa School Pool respectively, commencing in Term 2. Lessons will run over 8 weeks beginning on 1st May (Week 2) and ending on Monday 26th of June (Week 10). There will be no lessons on 5th June as the school will be closed for the King’s birthday.

Todd and his trusted team at EasySwim will deliver our swimming programme again this year.

We are currently working with Waitohi to organise for our tamariki using the Keith Spry pool, to be able to visit the beautiful reading spaces in the library too.

Amesbury Cross Country - Thursday 27 April

Our annual school Cross Country event will take place in the first week of Term 2.

Tamariki will be lacing up their shoes and toeing the line on Thursday 27th April. The distances are as follows:

  • Y1-2 = 1 lap approx. 500m,
  • Y3-4 = 2 laps approx. 1000m, and
  • Y5-6 = 3 laps approx. 1500m

The first race is expected to start at 11:10 am.

There will be an early morning tea on this day to allow for the tamariki to eat and change their clothes. We ask for all tamariki to have suitable footwear and a change of clothes for this day in case they get wet and muddy.

The Cross Country event will still go ahead even if it's wet. If the health and safety of our tamariki is in doubt due to extreme weather conditions the postponement date of Tuesday 2nd May will be used instead.

We welcome supporters and whānau to come on site and support our budding athletes.

If you would be help and be a marshal on the track please let me know via email at eilis@amesbury.school.nz.

Roadworks in Churton Park

Those directly affected by road resealing near the school, until the end of March, will have been notified, however, for everyone else please note this information.
