Our Year 3-6 Amesbury School Athletics day is coming up in Term 4 on Wednesday 19 October (Week 2). Students who are in Year 3-6 will travel to Newtown Park to use the track, while students who are in Year 0-2 will enjoy their athletics day at Amesbury School on Wednesday 2nd November.
Year 3-6 information
We will be leaving school by bus at 9:20am and returning just before 3pm. As this is part our school sports program, all students are expected to participate unless they have a specific reason not to.
On the day, students will need:
Students will be competing in a number of events between 10am and 2pm. We welcome family and friends to come and support them. If you are coming for the day or even part of the day, and you are able to help at an event, please e-mail Demelza Topp (demelza@amesbury.school.nz). We do need parents to help with running the events.
For Year 4-6 students we use our athletics day to help us select the team to compete in Northern Zone Athletics. For the throwing and jumping events, there are qualifying marks that students must reach in order to be considered. Selection in running races will be based on whether students will be competitive at Northern Zone. If for any reason your child is not able to compete at our athletics day, they will still be taken into consideration when selecting the team. Harakeke Hub have been regularly practicing athletics during Term 3, and so have a fair idea of what each student is capable of.
Year 0-2 information
While the Year 3-6 students are off competing at Newtown Park, the Year 0-2 students will enjoy a range of athletic activities at Amesbury School, in Week 4, on Wednesday 2nd November from 11 - 12.30pm
We will provide more information about the structure of this day closer to the day. On the day, students will need:
We welcome family and friends to come and support their children as they participate in the different events. You may be asked to help out, but we will endeavour to make sure you are only helping at the event when your child is participating.
If you require further information, please e-mail Amaria Picard (amaria@amesbury.school.nz).
