Noho Marae - Overnight Stay

By: Angela Johnston | Posted Monday February 20, 2017

As part of our term 1 inquiry and our commitment to our bicultural heritage as New Zealanders, Amesbury School plans to hold an overnight Noho Marae.

It is likely to be near the beginning of Term 2 and at a Wellington marae.  All students in the school are invited and encouraged to attend.  Parents are also invited to join us for the entire noho marae experience.

The trip will consist of leaving school in the morning, being welcomed onto the marae through a traditional powhiri, marae tour,  learning about marae protocols, learning about significant local historical events and locations, maori crafts and night activities. The following morning will include exercise and breakfast before heading off.  We will travel by bus and provide dinner and the following day's food for everyone.

Final dates and costs are to be confirmed and will be communicated as soon as all the details have been finalised. We will be seeking permission for students and interested parents at that time.
