  • Four-year-old programme begins - 2-2.45pm Monday 8 May
  • Northern Zone Cross Country - Tuesday 9 May
  • Co-curricular Lessons - Wednesday 10 & Friday 12 May

Netsafe Parent Information Session

Netsafe will be holding an information session for parents and whānau of Amesbury ākonga in the school hall from 5-6pm on Tuesday 6 June. The session will focus on supporting adults to keep our tamariki safe online.

For all the details - including the areas that the session will cover - please read through Urs's article.

Focus Groups

Urs facilitated some year-based focus groups last term and was proposing to finish with Years 1, 2 & 3 this term, however, with the Principals' strike action in place for the whole of this term, unfortunately, these remaining sessions have had to be postponed. Those affected will be advised or the rescheduled dates in due course.

School Cross Country Results

We had an awesome day of cross country racing last week. For who did what and photos of them doing it, please read Eilis's article.

Sausage Sizzle

For those in Years 1-3 who finished in the top 5 at the cross country, they will be representing Amesbury at the Junior Invitational on Thursday 18 May against a number of other schools within the area.

As a part of the day we will be holding a fundraising sausage sizzle. The sausage sizzle is available for everyone, so please read the details and place your order by 2pm on Monday 15th May. Eilis is also looking for some helpers to prepare and run the sausage sizzle, so please contact her (eilis@amesbury.school.nz) if you are able to assist.

Pink Shirt Day

A heads up that Friday 19 May is Pink Shirt Day.

We will be using the day to show our support for anti-bullying initiatives and to celebrate diversity.

We encourage all students to come to school wearing a pink item of clothing to show their support. We will not be collecting any money for this event, we are simply showing our support by wearing as much pink as possible as a school.

We understand that not all students own pink clothing and some students may not wish to participate. If this is the case, please ensure your child wears their school uniform on this day.

Scholastic's Book Club

Issue 3 is now out, so have a look through and pick up something special.

To find out how ordering, payment and delivery works read through Kirat's article

Closing date is Friday the 16th June 2023.

Old Magazines Wanted

Please send any old magazines you want to donate to the school office or Pōhutukawa Hub. In particular we are looking for any sports magazines eg. football, rugby, biking, but all magazines are welcome and will be useful. Thank you.

Halal Friendly Lunch Orders

Just a reminder that we have a Halal lunch option available on Wednesdays.

To see what's on the menu please click here.

Don't forget that we have other lunch options on Wednesdays (Nada Bakery), Thursdays (pizza), and Fridays (sushi).

Lunch Order Helpers Needed

Given the popularity of our Thursday pizza orders, Rachel is looking for some keen helpers particularly to bag them up. 30 minutes of your time is what is needed.

Please read through Rachel's info and contact her if you can help out.

Contagious/communicable illnesses

All must be advised to the office as this helps us to track any trends, advise our school community to be on the lookout, and ensures immediate notification to the parents of students who have lowered immune systems due to the treatment of serious medical conditions.

In particular, Chicken Pox and Measles can have serious implications for these students, so the sooner the families are informed of infectious exposure, the sooner they can get the appropriate treatment to prevent potentially serious complications. In addition to these, and Covid, the attached sheet has a list of other conditions that we need to know about.

Clothing backup ** All Students **
Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in the school bag for your child/children with a plastic bag to put the soiled/wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them to get changed into if they have an accident, or now that it's winter, get wet/muddy at school. For some children it can be quite embarrassing or upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available.

We have limited space that we hold a very small selection of spares so are not able to cater for 'requests' and all sizes. If there isn't anything for students to change into, we will call and ask for clothes to be brought to school.

Lost & Found

  • There are 6 fleeces (sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8) at the office that are either un-named, have an unreadable name, an ex-student's name or no tag. If your child is missing a fleece, please come and check them out (even if you think their fleece is named)
  • Please check that all fleeces are clearly named, and that the fleece your child has at home, belongs to them
  • To help keep our lost property to a minimum during this swimming term, please also name: all uniform items, swimming bags, towels, togs and goggles (Rachel handy hint - it's also helpful for swim instructors to have kids' names written on the outside of the band on the back of the head :-)

Kelly Club

This week at Kelly Club is all about showing our Mums and those who provide for us all of our love and support! We will be baking beautiful heart biscuits, appreciating our mother earth with a scavenger hunt and discovery opportunity as well as writing and crafting Mother's Day cards and teaching the kids how to make a yummy Mother's Day breakfast!

The Sacred Heart Cathedral Fundraising Team have organised another e-waste recycling day:

  • Cardinal McKeefrey School, 66 Albermarle Road, Wilton
  • Sunday 21 May 12 noon to 4pm

Have a big “spring” clean and drop off your e-waste for a minimal cost. Please also tell your friends. This is a great opportunity to responsibly dispose of your e-waste whilst supporting a very worthwhile cause - The Refurbishment of the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
