Structured Literacy Parent Session

On Monday 9th September commencing at 6pm in the school hall we have Kerri Satherley, from Massey University, facilitating a session for parents on structured literacy.

For the background of structured literacy and also what is planned to be covered in the session please she the Structured Literacy article that Urs has compiled.

Please complete this short RSVP form, so we have an idea of numbers for the session.

New Entrant/Year 1 Focus Group Meeting - This Tuesday

Urs has sent out invitations to all New Entrant and Year 1 parents to attend a Focus Group meeting this coming Tuesday (13 August) in the library from 5 to 6pm.

Amesbury Speech Competition

The 2024 Amesbury Speech Competition will be held this term, so it's time to register and start preparing your speech.

All the details for this year's event can be found here. But be aware of the critical dates:

  • Registration - Sunday 18th of August

  • Heats - Week 7 (2-6 September)

  • Finals - 2pm on Friday 13th of September

Scholastic's Book Club

The latest issue of Scholastic's Book Club is now available The last day to place your order is Friday, 23 August.

Free books are available on different spend levels, so don't miss out.

Kirat will also need some assistance to bundle up the books when they arrive, so if you can help, please contact her (kirat@amesbury.school.nz).

Teacher Only Day - Advance Notice

Whilst it is already on our Term Dates webpage and our School Events Calendar, it is timely to remind you to note in your own calendars that we have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 25 October. This is the Friday before Labour Weekend - making it a four day weekend for the tamariki.

Rāroa Intermediate Parent Information Evenings and Open Mornings

This coming week, Rāroa Normal Intermediate is holding Parent Information Evenings (Mon-Wed 6 pm - 7 pm) in their staffroom and Open Morning Tours (Tues-Thurs 9 - 10.30 am) for those interested in enrolling for 2025. If you cannot attend on the evening/morning allocated for your child's current school, please feel free to come to one of the other sessions.

Children are welcome at both, although the Information Evenings are tailored more to parents and caregivers. The Open Mornings are an opportunity for you as a family to see Rāroa in action. We look forward to seeing you next week.
