Amesbury Notices - 13 June 2022

What's on this week?

School Photos

This Tuesday (14 June) we are having our annual school photos taken.

Please note that they won't be available for viewing until around 2 weeks after the photos have been taken. We will provide all the information on how to access and purchase them when they become available.

Change of usual schedule for Friday 17 June

  • As explained in last week's digest, many teachers will be attending an online paid union meeting from 11:30am - 12:30pm on Friday. School leaders and a small group of teachers will supervise ākonga at school during this time. To help with this, the usual schedule for the day will be adjusted.
  • Instead of a morning tea break and a lunch break, we will run an early lunch break from 11:15am - 12:15pm, and an afternoon break from 1:40 - 2pm. There will be a smaller snack break at around 10am for teams, as usual.
  • Lunch orders can be ordered as usual - they will be delivered early in time for the 11:15am lunch break by Chia Sushi.
  • Given the change in schedule, some tamariki may need to graze at different points through the day, which will be absolutely fine. We recommend a range of smaller snacks in lunch boxes, to allow for this.

Amesbury's Got Talent 2022

Amesbury's Got Talent sign ups are closed and heats will be held at lunchtimes over the next two weeks. We are looking forward to what our ākonga present us with this year and judging from those signed up there will be a good variety of performances.

  • Heats will be held in weeks 7 & 8 (13-24 June)
  • The final will be on the afternoon of Friday 1 July

For more detail on this event please read Natalie's article.

Term 2 Matariki Disco

The Matariki Disco on Thursday 23 June is all organised and everyone is looking forward to it.

Kalesha's article provides all of the info and she is also looking for some parents to help ensure an enjoyable time for all of our tamariki. Please see what assistance is needed in her article and contact her (kalesha@amesbury.school.nz) if you are available to help.

Tickets for the disco are available on Kindo and the cut off is Tuesday 21 June. You can also pre-order pizza through Kindo.

ICAS Exams 2022

Registering for ICAS through Amesbury School needs to be completed next week - Thursday, June 23rd. Late registrations cannot be accepted.

ICAS exams will be running running in the middle weeks of Term 3 (August 2022). All exam dates and times are in the school calendar on our website.

Electives - small boxes needed

Electives are underway and Amaria is still after some small boxes - smaller than a shoebox to be more precise.

Have a search around home and if you can help out please drop these off to Amaria in Koru Hub.

We've really appreciated the huge number of jars and milk bottle lids etc. that have been already brought in after earlier requests. Thank you and know that all of these things contribute to assisting every child's learning here at Amesbury.

Churton Park Community Events - Anyone Interested?

Covid-19 has prevented most community events from taking place over the past few years and there is a desire to run some activities and events within our suburb a little later in the year, which will help us to re-connect, get together and have fun with our wider community.

If you are interested, or have some ideas and suggestions, then please read Urs's article on the subject and put your thoughts forward.

Amesbury Student Achievements Outside of School

Once again we are looking to receiving details of your child’s achievements outside of school so that we can share them with the wider Amesbury whānau and celebrate them together.

We know that a number of students gain achievements outside of school in various activities like sport, music, and for clubs that they are members of, etc.

If your child/ren have something that they would like to share (along with some photos, if you like), please email the information to natalie@amesbury.school.nz.

Volunteers needed for Pack the Bus 2022

The Breeze is running their annual Pack the Bus drive this year, working in conjunction with Wellington City Mission to collect food and toys to support deserving families in the wider Wellington area this Christmas.

Amesbury School will happily be involved with this again this year, and we are looking for a small group of parents or whānau members who would like to take oversight of organising this. It is pretty straightforward and not a huge amount of work. It involves advertising the event to our community (school can help with this) and helping to organise donations. The collection date will be the week starting 28th November (the week prior to our camp/activities week at school).

If you are interested in helping to run this donation drive, please email Urs (urs@amesbury.school.nz). Thanks

Clothing backup - for all Students

Just a reminder - if you hadn't noticed - that with winter here we have plenty rain, puddles and mud.

Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in your child's school bag (for all ages) with a plastic bag to put the wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them to get changed into.

For some children it can be quite embarrassing or upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available. We have limited space to hold a selection of spares so are not always able to cater for all 'requests' and sizes (particularly size 8 plus).

Do your tamariki love to sing?

Wellington Cathedral of St Paul is currently recruiting for more singers aged 8-15 to join the Cathedral Choristers. This is a terrific way to gain a musical education and learn vocal technique from one of the foremost conductors in the country free of charge.

Please see this link for more information, and this link to hear the Choristers talk their own experience. For further information or to organise an audition, please contact Michael Stewart at dom@wellingtoncathedral.org.nz.
