Term 2 Start

Term 2 commences on Wednesday 26 April.

With 25 April being ANZAC Day and, therefore, a public holiday, there will be a Teacher Only Day on 24 April so that there is not a disjointed week.

Amesbury Cross Country - Thursday 27 April

Our annual school Cross Country event will take place in the first week of Term 2.

Tamariki will be lacing up their shoes and toeing the line on Thursday 27th April. The distances are as follows:

  • Y1-2 = 1 lap approx. 500m,
  • Y3-4 = 2 laps approx. 1000m, and
  • Y5-6 = 3 laps approx. 1500m

The first race will commence at 11:10am.

There will be an early morning tea on this day to allow for the tamariki to eat and change their clothes. We ask for all tamariki to have suitable footwear and a change of clothes for this day in case they get wet and muddy.

The Cross Country event will still go ahead even if it's wet. If the health and safety of our tamariki is in doubt due to extreme weather conditions the postponement date of Tuesday 2nd May will be used instead.

We welcome supporters and whānau to come on site and support our budding athletes.

For further info please have a look through the School Cross Country notification.

If you would be help and be a marshal on the track please let me know via email at eilis@amesbury.school.nz.

Hub Reports for Term 1

A few weeks ago we provided you with a report of the activities in Koru Hub for this term.

Now we have reports from both Harakeke and Pōhutukawa.

While the whole school used the same inquiry - 'Living as my best self' (Ahakoa he iti he pounamu/Despite being small, you are of great value), Each of the Hub reports focussed on different learning areas as they related them to the theme:

  • Koru - language
  • Harakeke - maths
  • Pōhutukawa - visual arts

Kiwi Hoops

We've just concluded our 8 session Kiwi Hoops programme for all of the Y3-6 ākonga.

It was an enjoyable, learning experience and, apart from Coach Noah who led the programme, we would like to especially thank the Amesbury whānau for their generous donations that enabled it to happen.

Eilis, our Sports Coordinator, has provided a wrap up of the programme, together with some photos for you to enjoy.

Fame Jr - a Porirua Little Theatre Presentation

Our own Amesbury School student, Caitlin, has been up to some really cool things with Porirua Little Theatre recently! Caitlin will be taking the stage April 13-22 in FAME Jr playing a role in the dancing ensemble! The show follows the lives of aspiring performing art students and touches on subjects affecting young people today. Caitlin would love to see you in the audience.
