Actions Needed:
Running Events in Term 2
We have the School Cross Country taking place next term on 7 May, however, there's more - interschool events, a fun run and the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.
Want to know all the details? Rupert has it all here for you.
Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge
The Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge is on again next term. The event will be held on 21 May, however, entry registrations close on 29 April (the 1st day of Term 2). Amesbury provided 24 entries last year.
Rupert has provided all of the info here and, to get a real insight, watch the short video from previous years. If that doesn't get you signing up what will? If only I was ten years younger ....
If your tamariki want to be involved in this exciting, adrenaline inducing, cold and wet event don't delay - register here now.
Co-curricular Classes in Term 2
We expanded our offering of co-curricular lessons in Term 1 and, during the term, we offered a number of Taster sessions for our tamariki to try a few different lessons. There was a pleasingly large uptake to this offer. If your child participated and you haven't already talked to them about their experience, please do, and then consider signing up for lessons in Term 2.
For everyone else, co-curricular classes are still available and we'd encourage you to sign up if there are any that you think that your child would like to participate in.
For information about our co-curricular programme please view our webpage and if you have any questions that aren't covered or you wish to sign up please contact John (communications@amesbury.school.nz).
Our existing co-curricular students and those that have already advised that they wish to start in Term 2 are already on the lists and will all receive invoices early next week for Term 2. If you wish to make any changes to existing lessons, please let John know as soon as you can.
Garden to Table
What is Garden to Table? See their website.
After spending this term in organisation mode, Term 2 will be all go for the Garden to Table project with our Year 4 ākonga piloting the project but with all ākonga learning as part of the school wide inquiry "How Does the World Work?"
A huge thanks to a number of people and organisations for their contributions to get the programme up and running at Amesbury. Now we are looking for members of the Amesbury Community who have an interest gardening or cooking to support us during sessions. Please contact Angela (angela.herman-childs@amesbury.school.nz) if you can help out or simply to seek more information.
To find out more about the programme at Amesbury and what's proposed please read Angela's article.
Building Relationships in Koru Hub
Amaria has written an excellent report on Koru Hub in Term 1. But it's more that that. It's about relationships - relationships that were agreed in advance by the whole Hub and how these relationship goals are being implemented.
Even if your tamariki are not in Koru, please take the time to read what Amaria has written.
Share and Celebrate Week 11
We held our latest Share & Celebrate on Friday recognising the special things that ākonga (students) were noticed doing. We have been having them fortnightly this term but, in order to cover the term, this latest group covers the last three weeks.
Read all about who was recognised and what for, here.
Learning Celebration Term 1
We had our Term 1 Learning Celebration last week which gave parents and caregivers the opportunity to come in and see what the tamariki have been working on this term. It also enabled Koru & Pōhutukawa Hubs to see what the other hub's approach was considering that they all worked on the same Inquiry topic.
As always, the ākonga enjoyed sharing their learning with others. See here for a glimpse into the Learning Celebration.
Movin' March 2024
Movin' March is over for another year but it doesn't mean that our tamariki should stop riding , scooting and walking to school.
Jemima has provided us with a small wrap up of the month particularly focusing on the celebration at the end - see here.
The winning isn't over. If your tamariki and yourselves complete the following surveys for the Greater Wellington Regional Council - who deliver Movin' March - more spot prizes are available:
Disco and Easter Raffle Term 1
We had our Disco last week and Easter Raffle was drawn the previous week. There was must interest and anticipation about both and neither disappointed.
The events were fundraising for the Year 5-6 camp later this year and the efforts put in by caregivers and tamariki to ensure the success of both events was much appreciated.
Jemima has taken the time to put together an article on both of these events as well as providing an update on how much they contributed towards the Year 5-6 camp - see here for all of the info.
Items for Term 2 Learning Inquiry Needed
Please start to collect the following items for inquiry learning next term:
If you can bring them to the school office from the start of next term, we'll have containers out to collect them. Thanks so much.
Next term we will be learning about the natural world, including exploring ecosystems and creating our own mini ecosystems. These items will help heaps!
Holiday Activity Ideas
Don't forget to check out the range of holiday ideas that have been sent into us for tamariki to do over the holidays.
Kelly Club
We have had such a fantastic term with everyone here at Kelly Club! It was full of fun and games, arts and crafts, loads of cooking, and time spent with friends.
