Greater Wellington Regional Council is running Movin' March again this year - a month-long celebration to promote safe and active travel and address congestion and safety issues around the school gate. All students across the wider Wellington region are encouraged to walk, cycle, scoot or even dance to school to celebrate all the great things about making the journey to school an active one. Find out more about the Movin' March initiative here.
At Amesbury, a group of students, assisted by Urs, will be running the WOW challenge throughout March as their 'ourTime' community project. Students will be given 'passport' cards to keep in their tote trays. Every day they walk, cycle or scoot to school they can have their passport stamped. We appreciate that a small number of students live too far away to WOW the whole way, so they have the option of using a vehicle for most of the way and WOWing for the last section for their journey (such as along Amesbury Drive). Each time a passport is completed they can hand it in to teachers. At the end of March all completed passports will be sent off to Greater Wellington Regional Council. All passports will then go into a draw to win one of six $300 Avanti vouchers, and the top six schools with the highest percentage of completed passport cards will win one of six $100 Prezzy cards.
Last year Amesbury School had the highest percentage of students completing at least one 'passport' of all participating schools throughout Wellington, and we have our sights set on that accolade again this year!
So, get moving! Have fun walking, cycling or scooting to school.
Warm regards,
The Amesbury Team
