Junior Invitational Cross Country & Sausage Sizzle

The annual Junior Invitational Cross Country will be held at Amesbury this Thursday (2 June). Apart from our own thirty Year 1-3s who qualified from our school cross country held earlier this month, ākonga from 11 further school in our area will take part totalling up to 360 tamariki.

Racing is due to start around 9.30am and, given that the event will be held outside, whānau are most welcome to come along to watch and support the participants.

In conjunction with the event, we will be holding a sausage sizzle at morning tea time (after racing has concluded). All Amesbury ākonga are invited to order sausages for your child(ren) through our school Kindo shop. Sausages will cost $2. We ask that you have your order completed by 2pm on Monday 30th May.

If you have some time available help is required between 9-11:30a.m. to assist with the sausage sizzle. As this is a camp fundraiser for the Pōhutukawa hub we would appreciate help from parents of these tamariki in particular. If you can help, please contact either Kalesha (kalesha@amesbury.school.nz) or Eilis (eilis@amesbury.school.nz).

Electives Begin this Week

We begin our electives this week and, with the move to orange level, we are able to have them run across the school rather than by Hub. This enables all of the age levels to work together and to operate as a family interacts.

Can you please have a final quick look round home for the following:

  • Small boxes no bigger than a shoebox
  • milk bottle lids
  • small off cuts of wood for the construction table
  • paper towel tubes (no toilet roll tubes, please)

Please drop these off to Amaria in Koru Hub

A big thank you for all of the glass jars. We now have plenty.

Amesbury's Got Talent 2022

The Amesbury's Got Talent is on again and is open for all students in the school to enter with any talent they want to share:

  • Heats will be held in weeks 7 & 8 (13th-24th June)
  • Sign ups close on 8 June
  • The final will be on the afternoon of Friday 1 July

For more detail on this event please read Natalie's article.

Northern Zone Cross County

The Northern Zone Cross Country was held last week with Amesbury taking a large team along. It was a great day and the results also reflected this as we had 5 runners qualify for the Inter Zone Cross Country on 14 June.

If you want to find out more about the day and who has qualified, Eilis has it all covered here.

Amesbury Student Achievements Outside of School

Once again we are looking to receiving details of your child’s achievements outside of school so that we can share them with the wider Amesbury whānau and celebrate them together.

We know that a number of students gain achievements outside of school in various activities like sport, music, and for clubs that they are members of, etc.

If your child/ren have something that they would like to share (along with some photos, if you like), please email the information to natalie@amesbury.school.nz

Volunteers needed for Pack the Bus 2022

The Breeze is running their annual Pack the Bus drive this year, working in conjunction with Wellington City Mission to collect food and toys to support deserving families in the wider Wellington area this Christmas.

Amesbury School will happily be involved with this again this year, and we are looking for a small group of parents or whānau members who would like to take oversight of organising this. It is pretty straightforward and not a huge amount of work. It involves advertising the event to our community (school can help with this) and helping to organise donations. The collection date will be the week starting 28th November (the week prior to our camp/activities week at school).

If you are interested in helping to run this donation drive, please email Urs (urs@amesbury.school.nz). Thanks

ICAS Exams 2022

Just a reminder about ICAS exams as the parents' meeting is rapidly approaching. If you are interested - or think that you may be interested - head to Jenny's ICAS Exams 2022 article for all of the details. The critical dates are:

  • Thursday 9th June @ 4pm in the library - Parents' Meeting
  • Thursday 23rd June - last day for registrations
  • August - the ICAS exams

Scholastic's Book Club

Just a reminder too that the latest Scholastic's Book Club issue is now out. While there's still a few more weeks until it closes on Friday 17 June, it's a good idea to start thinking about it now.

As usual, there is a wide range of interesting books to choose from and it is now easier to order and pay than ever before.

Kirat explains all of this in her Scholastic's Book Club article.

Supporting other Children through Kindo

Kindo is adding a new feature to your myKindo portal enabling you to gift to others - starting with KidsCan. You will be able to shop and pay for our school items as normal, and you will now see some KidsCan donation offers on the checkout page.

Kindo will provide the donation receipts so you can claim back the 33% tax rebate – or sign up to TaxGift or Supergenerous to gift the rebate too.

If you have any questions or feedback, please email hello@mykindo.co.nz.
