Because morning tea isn't until 11am most days, and we're keen to support students to stay focussed on learning, they can have a 'brain break', which is a small bite to eat intended as an easy to eat, nourishing snack that provides some good energy between breakfast and morning tea.
Particularly for younger students it can be helpful to let them know which item is the brain break snack, so they don't eat their lunch at this time.
We understand that there are times when a lunchbox treat is added, but we ask that items such as chocolate and lollies are not used for the brain break, and are limited to one-off and special occasions.
Amesbury participates in the Fonterra Milk for Schools programme, which means we make available Anchor Lite UHT milk to our students every day. It is not compulsory, it's up to students whether they choose to have milk (never, sometimes, every day).
However, if there are dietary/allergy reasons that you DO NOT want your child to have milk, please let us know: office@amesbury.school.nz
We encourage students to stay hydrated, so if they do not like or feel like having milk then they can grab their water bottle instead. We ask that children do not bring fizzy drinks to school.
Sorry, no treats to be handed out at school for birthdays. It's lovely that students want to share their special day with their peers, and in the early days of Amesbury, some parents would bring treats in to school for everyone in the hub. We don't want to set an expectation with students or parents around this practice because, in addition to risks associated with allergies, there are just too many students in one hub to make this fair and feasible.
Our students are so open to sharing, however we also need your help to remind them that any food items are not to be shared with their friends at school, as these may be foods that are restricted for a reason.
A reminder that lunch orders may not be practical on days that students will be offsite around lunchtime e.g. swimming, school trip or sports tournament.
Thanks for your support on this.
