Amesbury Speech Competition -Registrations Close Sunday

The 2024 Amesbury Speech Competition will be held this term.

Registrations close on Sunday (18 August) - don't miss out.

All the details for this year's event can be found here. But be aware of the critical dates:

  • Registration - Sunday 18th of August

  • Heats - Week 7 (2-6 September)

  • Finals - 2pm on Friday 13th of September

Scholastic's Book Club - Closes Friday

The latest issue of Scholastic's Book Club is now available The last day to place your order is Friday, 23 August.

Free books are available on different spend levels, so don't miss out.

Kirat will also need some assistance to bundle up the books when they arrive, so if you can help, please contact her (kirat@amesbury.school.nz).

Share and Celebrate Week 4

We've just had our latest Share & Celebrate, recognising a number of achievements and special things to be noted. To see who was recognised and celebrated this week, please read all about it here.

This week we had a special addition to the event with a few of our co-curricular singing classes providing us with an item. They did amazingly well, especially in front of such a large audience.

Structured Literacy Parent Session

On Monday 9th September commencing at 6pm in the school hall we have Kerri Satherley, from Massey University, facilitating a session for parents on structured literacy.

For the background of structured literacy and also what is planned to be covered in the session please she the Structured Literacy article that Urs has compiled.

Please complete this short RSVP form, so we have an idea of numbers for the session.

Onesie Day

Onesie Day is coming soon - Friday 13 September.

The purpose of Onesie Day is fundraising for Wellington Free Ambulance so please donate online at onesieday.co.nz.

Come to school dressed in your Onesie. There will various activities including a Onesie Parade.

Pizza Packing Volunteers

Rachel is looking for some additional helpers to pack pizzas for lunches on Thursdays. Please read here for the details and if you are able to help out please see Rachel (in the office) or email her (office@amesbury.school.nz).

Absence due to medical reasons

  • A friendly reminder that (per Ministry of Health guidelines) following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child should be symptom free for 48 hours before they can return to school.  This includes ongoing symptoms such as stomach pains, nausea, vomiting and or diarrhoea.

  • If a student is still unwell and absent from school for 5 consecutive days due to medical reasons, we ask for a medical certificate from a health professional be provided (including the date seen, confirming the days unfit for school and estimated return date)

This week, come join Kelly Club for Staff Choice week, where the staff have got you covered with a week filled with their favourite activities. We will enjoy our chocolate fruit skewers, making our own board games and other fun activities.
