Co-curricular Classes in Term 2

Our lessons for Term 2 commence in Week 1, so now is the perfect time to sign up for new or additional classes, or to make changes to existing classes.

We really appreciate the support that we receive from parents for our co-curricular programme. This enables us to:

  • provide opportunities for tamariki to try out new things, or to become more proficient, all in school time

  • receive additional funding for the school to provide extra activities for our tamariki

  • achieve this within school time - meaning that parents don't have to use out of school time to take their children to lessons; and

  • all at a lesser cost than enrolling tamariki in commercially provided lessons.

Read all about our co-curricular classes here, and contact John to sign up and with any questions that you may have.

Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge

For those to entered last year it's a no-brainer that you will be entering again this year. For those Years 3, 4, 5 & 6s who didn't here's your chance if you like water, mud, obstacles, tunnels, hills, and did I mention, water?!

Sign up now for the Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge being held in Wainuiomata on Tuesday 20 May. While registrations close on 15 May, if you sign up 3 weeks before the event, you will receive your very own personalised bib number.

Running Events in Term 2

We have a range of running events coming up in Term 2. Please see here for details.

Most importantly, the annual school cross country, for all year groups, will take place on the second day of next term - Tuesday 29 April. We will have an early morning tea break and look to have the first race underway at 11.10am.

Passion Projects in Koru!

This term Koru have been planning and preparing their passion projects all ready for making next term.

What is a Passion Project? What does it involve? And what have they achieved so far? All good questions! For the answers please read this Passion Project Report for the term.

Amesbury Awesomeness Awards and Share & Celebrate Week 11

We held our latest Share & Celebrate on the last day of term recognising the special things that ākonga (students) were noticed doing as well as announcing our Amesbury Awesomeness Awards for the term. These fortnightly celebrations are an opportunity to recognise the quite often unnoticed things that contribute to making Amesbury a better community.

This Week's Garden-to-Table Recipe

Amesbury is a part of the Garden-to-Table programme in which our older tamariki spend time each week growing produce in our garden and then preparing a food in the kitchen based largely on what has been harvested. For more information on the programme please go to the website.

Angela, who is our Garden-to-Table Coordinator, is pleased to share this week's recipe for Apple & Cinnamon Muffins. Give it a go at home!

Community Notices

Holiday Activity Opportunities

We have received notifications from a number of organisations of activities that they are running during the forthcoming holidays. These have been consolidated here and the list will be added to as further notifications are received.

Phil Hope Memorial Concert

Phil was our guitar/ukulele teacher for over seven years until he retired at the end of 2023, having started numerous Amesbury kids on their musical journeys. We all remember the sounds wafting through the school as Phil and his charges strummed along and sang "Playing Guitar at Amesbury". Thanks for the memories, Phil.

Sadly Phil passed away last month. Now, his fellow musicians are coming together to celebrate Phil’s legacy the best way we know how: through music.
