Measles
You will be aware that there is a large and increasing measles outbreak particularly in Auckland with over 800 confirmed cases, however, there are 21 cases in Wellington to date.With school holidays approaching and a number of national sports and cultural events measles is likely to continue in NZ for months.The Regional Public Health Officer is providing information to all school communities to raise awareness of what people can do now to prevent further spread of measles.

Have-a-go at Springboard Diving
For anyone wanting to have-a-go at springboard diving during the first week of the October holidays. Book for one or more sessions.
Each session consists of 15mins poolside + 45mins in the pool/on the boards. Participants need to be comfortable in deep water & be confident swimming 25mtrs.
Session Cost - $10.00 per session

Artrageous Kids Programme
Aimed at children aged 5-12 years.
These classes provide a space for all children to explore at their own pace; chaotic or careful, gingerly or with gusto, tiptoeing or tromping. Our aim is to draw out their creativity, not stuff things in!

'Write like an Author' or 'Draw like an Illustrator'
Here is an opportunity for children to attend school holiday camps for young writers and illustrators.
The writing camp is ideal for young people who have a dream of becoming a published author or anyone who wants to improve their writing skills. The illustration camp offers the same opportunity to young artists.
The non-residential camps will be held at Raroa Intermediate during the school holidays, starting on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 and running until Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Emergency Water Tanks
This is your invitation to buy a hot sausage outside Churton Park New World on Saturday 14 September, 11am to 1pm! Northern Ward city councillors will be selling 200L emergency water tanks at the same time.Pre-order and pre-pay if you'd like to reserve a water tank - $115 each. To order please email malcolm.sparrow@wcc.govt.nz. Mention 'Amesbury School' in your email and they will donate $10 to the school from your water tank purchase.
UNICEF Tamariki Walk
UNICEF at Victoria University and Vic Red Cross are student run clubs that hope to contribute to the local community. Similar to the spirit of the organisations we are focused on the welfare of local children.
We will be holding a Tamariki Walk on the 14th September at Boyd Wilson from 1:30 pm to raise funds for our future events and for a local initiative that helps our Tamariki. There will be a walking course with fun challenges and participants are encouraged to bring an item of choice that would be used as the weight to symbolise the struggles that children go through around the world to have access to education, water and medical assistance. There will be prizes for the people who bring the most creative weight!

Whitby Collegiate
A Whitby Collegiate education for your son or daughter in Year 7, 2020?
From the beginning of 2020 Marsden Whitby will become Whitby Collegiate. You are invited to the Whitby Collegiate Open Day on Sunday 15 September, any time between 11am and 1pm. This is a great opportunity to see the Whitby Collegiate campus and to find out about our future-focused learning programmes. There will be staff and students to talk to and our students look forward to showing you around.
Whitby Collegiate applications for enrolment for 2020 are now open. We encourage you to come and visit our school and invite students to spend time in class with us. If you have any questions or would like a personal tour, please contact Lorraine Rose on 04 234 1070.
There are easy transport links to Whitby Collegiate and our school buses bring students from the Hutt Valley, Johnsonville, Churton Park, Tawa and Aotea, and connect with the train for students travelling from the Kapiti Coast.
Olympic Junior Athletics
Athletics is a great sport for developing not only in the track and field area but also in skills for all other sports.
Registration is now open for our Junior Athletics Season.
Club nights are Monday evenings. Please see www.olympicjuniors.nz for information on our club nights (see Junior athletics tab) and registration (see membership tab). Our first club night is Monday 21 October 2019, 5.30pm at Grenada North.
Further details about other athletic events such as interclub meets at Newtown and Colgate Games will be available at club nights.
Wellington Lego Show
Wellington’s only Lego Show will be held on 14 & 15 September at Lower Hutt Events Centre.It’s going to be bigger and better than any Lego show that has been held in the city before.The show will be raising money for the Back to Schools charity, that supports children in low decile areas return to school with essential items they need for the new school year, so we want to spread the word and get as many people coming along as possible.
Maranui SLSC Open Day
Sun, Sand & Surf - Maranui Junior Surf season starts on Sunday 3 November 2019.
Summer is approaching, so now is the time to register with Maranui Surf Life Saving Club. Junior Surf is a great way for children to make friends, be active and enjoy the beach in a safe environment.
Come along to our Registration and Club Open Day on Sunday 22 September, 11am - 1pm. See what’s happening at the club this season, meet coaches, lifeguards and athletes, have a look around the surf clubhouse, ask questions, and if conditions allow have a go. Information on junior surf, Lifeguard sport and becoming a lifeguard will be available.
