What's on this week?
Mask and Covid update
It is good to report that we currently have no active Covid cases. We believe that good ventilation in our learning spaces, along with good mask wearing amongst staff and year 4-6 ākonga, have played a key part in this. We are keen to continue this trend of low or no case numbers, and so we will keep up our current precautions.
As such we will continue to strongly encourage all year 4-6 ākonga and all staff to wear a mask when indoors for the rest of this term.
Mask wearing is not required outdoors.
We have a good supply of child and adult masks, and we will continue to make these readily available each day. We will also ask that parents and visitors also wear a mask indoors, and masks will be available at reception and in all hubs.
For further in depth information please read Urs's Mask and Covid update article.
Amesbury School Construction Update
Expected completion date of the new hub is May 2023.
Go to Urs's article for all the details of where we are at and some construction progress photos.
We are excited at the progress being made and look forward with anticipation to being able to move in.
Kids' Artworks Orders - Volunteers Needed
UPDATE: No more volunteers needed. Rachel has been inundated with offers of help and thanks everyone for putting up their hands so quickly.
The Kids' Artworks orders are currently in production. This year, in order to keep the cost per product down, we chose the DIY packing option. And this is where we need some volunteer help.
Rachel's article outlines everything involved so please read it and if you are interested and have the time please contact Rachel: office@amesbury.school.nz and offer your services.
Junior Invitational Cross Country & Sausage Sizzle
The rescheduled Junior Invitational Cross Country will take place @ Amesbury this Thursday with around 30 of our ākonga representing the school against approximately 300 ākonga from other schools in the area.
The first race is scheduled for 9.30am so if you have whānau taking part or you simply want to support the tamariki, come along and join us.
To find out who is representing the school and all the details of the day please refer to Eilis's article.
Apart from the racing, we will also be holding a fundraising sausage sizzle for the Pōhutukawa Camp next term. This will be held at morning tea time. Sausages must be purchased in advance through Kindo. Orders will close at 4pm on Tuesday (23rd August). Further information can be found here.
Amesbury Speech Competition 2022
The 2022 Amesbury Speech Competition is almost here so it's time to sign up and get working on that speech!
Please read Natalie's article which provides all of the details and the entry form. If you have any questions contact Natalie (natalie@amesbury.school.nz).
Speech sign ups will close on Wednesday (24th August 2022).
Touch Rugby - Coming Soon
Amesbury is looking to enter some teams in the Touch Rugby competition to be held next term at Alex Moore Park.
The focus is on fundamentals, participation and fun for all of our girls & boys who sign up.
Additionally, we are looking for some keen parents as coaches & helpers to provide assistance to enhance the ākonga enjoyment.
Eilis has provided an outline to the competition and assistance needed and will provide the sign up/help forms in next week's notices.
Senior Athletics - Save the Date
A heads up about the Senior Athletics Day at Newtown Park on Monday 26 September. Eilis has provided preliminary information on the day.
It's a big day out for all of our Y3-6 ākonga and we'd love for you to join us - whether as spectators or to help with the smooth running of events. If you are able to help out please email Eilis eilis@amesbury.school.nz. Thanks.
St Brigid's Kapa Haka Festival - organised by Amesbury School
The St Brigid's Annual Kapa Haka Festival is being organised this year by Amesbury and will be held at Onslow College given the large numbers that will be participating.
Apart from general assistance with setting up etc., we are using it as an opportunity to fundraise for the Pou (pillars) in the new build. Please read about this in the article that Amaria has prepared and please fill out this form, signalling how you can help.
Clothing backup - for all Students
And the rain continues!
Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in your child's school bag (for all ages) with a plastic bag to put the wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them to get changed into.
For some children it can be quite embarrassing or upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available. We have limited space to hold a selection of spares so are not always able to cater for all 'requests' and sizes (particularly size 8 plus).
More from the Office
Following on from the above, we also have $5 second hand Amesbury beanies available to purchase.
While it's a good idea to name everything that your tamariki bring to school, there seems to be a number of lunch boxes & water bottles that are being lost at the moment.
