Amesbury's Wheels and Cultural Festival 2019

By: Regina Singh | Posted Friday October 25, 2019

On the 15th of November from 3-5pm the school grounds will be filled with wheel-y exciting sports events, beginning with the Amesbury Sponsored Endurance Cycle Race, in which students will be sponsored by their whanau and friends to see how many laps they can complete of our gruelling bike track in thirty minutes. There will also be bike and scooter polo, trick challenges on the ramps and pump track, and a dress-up parade and competition for those who love to decorate their bikes, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, and/or unicycles.

To make our afternoon more exciting, we are connecting this event with our inquiry. We would like to encourage children to perform their cultural dances. We can provide a space for them to research and practice during their breaks. We will also need some parent support in coordinating the groups. Please let Regina (regina@amesbury.school.nz) know if you are able to help and also talk to your children about whether they would like to perform. If they are interested in performing,  they can come and see Regina at lunchtime on Tuesday 29th October to make some plans.

Our teachers will be on site to face paint and make henna designs on hands. There will be chalk available to create artwork around the school and, of course, there will be prizes for the best designs. Children working on clay sculptures during electives will be displaying their art creations.

There will also be a sausage sizzle, games, and prizes for various events. Your child(ren) will bring sponsorship forms for the endurance race home today. We look forward to you joining us at our event, featuring cultural highlights, friendly competition, creativity, and (hopefully) a lovely afternoon in early summer sunshine.

The book fair will also be happening  from Wednesday 13 November to Friday 15 November. We still need a few more parents to help run the book fair.  Here is a link to the article with information about the book fair. Thanks, in advance, for your support with this.
