Influenza
We have had a notification from the Regional Medical Officer of Health regarding influenza in Wellington.
Influenza (flu) is a virus that spreads quickly from person to person. It can be spread through the air by coughing and sneezing as well as by hands, cups and other objects that have been in contact with an infected person’s mouth or nose. The following information will help reduce the spread of influenza: 1. Make sure everyone covers their mouth and nose with tissues when coughing and sneezing. 2. Make sure students (and staff) with symptoms stay at home until they are well and free of symptoms. 3. Encourage everyone to wash their hands regularly.
For further information please read the attachment below.
Parents please note: If you keep your child home because they have influenza (flu) or any other contagious/notifiable illness please select 'other' not just 'sick' on the absence form. This then gives you the option of providing a 'reason' where you can state "flu". Can you also please state whether this has been confirmed by a doctor.
Please be aware also of the school's policy that a certificate from a health professional should be provided after 3 days of absence.
Lost and Found
Lots of goggles and socks! Attached photo of recent additions. Anything not claimed by 3.30pm on Friday 5 July (last day of term) will be donated.

Police Non emergency Number - 105
NZ Police recently launched a new non emergency number, '105'. This was done this to make it easier to get hold of the Police in the event of non-urgent situations or ‘Things which have Already Happened’, which don’t require Police assistance immediately.
You can call the Police on '105' for all non emergencies, or you can go online at 105.police.govt.nz to report things like:
- Lost property
- Theft from a public place or car
- Intentional property damage
- To get an update or add info to a previous report
In the event of an emergency, always call '111' - Things that are Happening Now.

Tots to Teens Magazine
The new July/August issue digital magazine is available here: http://issue1906w.totstoteens.co.nz/
In this issue, we ask the question “Is my child entitled or do they understand their rights?” We also look at education issues for parents – why our children should all learn to code, and how predicting endings and outcomes of stories is an important life skill for children to learn. Help your kids engage both the left and right brain with our 5 simple brain games. We have a lovely story on using horses for children’s therapy for physical and mental well-being. We also look into grommets, one of the most common surgical procedures, and give parents a better understanding of what’s involved. To help with the consequences of reduced sunlight and close-quartered activity of sick children, we have three delicious lemon recipes, and five ways to supplement your family’s diet to get through winter unscathed. We have plenty of amazing prizes to win, holiday ideas to help entertain the children, and a kids’ fun page to enjoy.
