What's on in Week 1?
This Term's Activities
Welcome back for Term 4.
There's plenty happening in such a short term so Urs has put together a list of events in Term 4 with some information about each. Please read through it and note in your calendar any of the items that relate to you.
One of the activities on the list is the Amesbury School Community Evening on Friday 18 November. One of the features of the evening will be the yummy hangi being put on by CJS Hangi - known as the tastiest in Wellington. Orders will open on Kindo this Wednesday (19 October), but please be aware that there is a limited number available. For their part, CJS Hangi will also provide Amesbury with a share of the sales which will go towards the design of the Pou in our new build - something everyone will benefit from.

Sonali's student conferences (online)
Just a reminder if you have tamariki in Sonali's whānau, online student conferences will be held this Wednesday and Thursday.
If you haven't done so already, you will need to book your session. Booking close on Wednesday morning at 8am. This enables Sonali some time to prepare for her session with you.
Mihi Whakatau and New Families Information Session
On Monday, at 2.30pm, we have our termly mihi whakatau. While all those families involved have been specifically invited, everyone is welcome to attend to support and welcome our new families.
Then, commencing at 4.30pm, we have our New Families Information Session. Invitations have been sent out to recently joining families, however, if you were unable to attend previously or you desire a refresher, please feel free to come along.
Chinese Whānau Hui
As part of a strategy of connecting with different groups of families, Urs will be meeting with our Chinese whānau at 5.30pm on Thursday October 20th in the school library. We have teachers who will supervise your tamariki while you are involved.
Invitations have gone out to families involved in this session, and Urs would ask that if you will be attending to please let Urs know (urs@amesbury.school.nz).
Other groups will be invited to future hui during the course of this term and early next year.
Amesbury Cultural Showcase 2022 - Closes Tuesday 18 October
Here is a great opportunity for you to come along to our 2022 Cultural Showcase which will be held next week - Tuesday 25 & Thursday 27 October. What's it all about? Please follow this link where Onaitta & Angela have provided all you need to know.
It will be an awesome opportunity to see what our tamariki have been working on in their current inquiry, however, there is one catch - there are limited numbers that are able to attend. If you haven't already done so and you wish to attend, please complete this expression of interest form to secure your place. These close on Tuesday 18 October.
Poetry Writing Competition
The Inaugural Churton Park Poetry Writing Competition is happening.
Tamariki, from both Amesbury & Churton Park Schools, are invited to submit their poems - on any subject - by 5pm on Wednesday 26th October.
The winners will be announced at an event at the Churton Park Community Centre (Kea Hall) on Friday 11th November from 5:45 - 6:45pm.

Book Fair
Our annual Book Fair is being held in November and, as part of the preparation, Kirat is looking for volunteers to look after the stand. The sessions are short so the commitment is not great. No experience necessary to apply.

Years 0-2 Junior Athletics Carnival
We have this year's Y0-2 Athletics Carnival on the morning of Tuesday 1 November. This is for all Y0-2 tamariki including those based in Harakeke.
Amaria has written a short article covering the admin side of the day, so if your tamariki are involved please have a look so that you know the when and what to bring information.
Harakeke Camp Information #1
Initial information is available for this year's Camp Week for all tamariki in Harakeke Hub.
It provides not only the information about what is planned for the week but also the all important consent form for you to complete which enables your tamariki to attend. (One form per child). Please complete this no later that Sunday 30 October.
One other matter on the form is a request for parent help. Camps and many other school activities cannot take place without your help. We really appreciate those who put their names forward to assist.
Koru End of Year Camp 2022
We also have the details for our Koru Hub Camp available.
Please complete the consent form no later than Sunday 30 October.
Again, parental assistance is essential for this camp to proceed, so if you can, please indicate your willingness to help on the consent form. Thanks in advance.
Advising of contagious illnesses
When informing the school office of an absence due to a student being unwell, please include additional information regarding conditions that are highly contagious (see the charts below or follow this link).
This helps us track any trends, advise our school community to be on the lookout, and it ensures immediate notification to the parents of students who have a lowered immune system due to the treatment of chronic medical conditions.
In particular, Chicken Pox and Measles can have serious implications for these students, so the sooner the child's family is informed of infectious exposure (Amesbury students or their siblings), the sooner they can get the appropriate treatment to prevent potentially serious complications.
Kelly Sports @ Amesbury - Tuesdays 3.05-4.05pm
A weekly multi sports programme that provides an essential base for children's motor skills and help build confidence and coordination.The programme gives children skills and confidence in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Football Skills for Term 4 - new day, now Wednesdays
Aimed for beginners, this is an 8 week football skills programme held at the Green Room, Wests Rugby Club Rooms, Ian Galloway Park, Wilton, on Wednesdays from 3.30-4.30pm.
Come and learn all about Football! This programme covers both individual and team skills including, Game rules, Ball control, Dribbling, Passing, Tackling,
Defence, Team work, Goalkeeping, practice and warm up drills for players and teams. It is ideal to improve skills and confidence.
It’s also great practice for the summer series football competition.
