At Amesbury school, we are committed to providing the best possible education and opportunities for our ākonga (students). While we receive operational funding from the government, this funding does not cover all of the enriching experiences and resources we aim to provide. To bridge this gap, we rely on school donations from our community. These contributions allow us to create unique learning opportunities and maintain a high-quality educational environment for every child.
Special Opportunities Funded This Year
Thanks to generous donations from whānau and the community, we are excited to fund several special programmes and projects in 2025:
Garden to Table programme throughout the year (Years 4-6). This hands-on initiative teaches students how to grow their own vegetables and cook delicious kai using the produce they harvest. It fosters sustainability, healthy eating habits, and teamwork.
Kiwi Hoops basketball programme (Term 1, Years 3-6). This programme brings in basketball coaches to help students develop fundamental basketball skills while promoting physical activity and teamwork.
Large sandpit – We are constructing a large sandpit behind the Harakeke building, providing a fun and engaging outdoor play space for our younger students.
Ongoing Investments in Our Students
Beyond these special projects, our school also funds several essential resources and programmes every year to support our students' learning and development:
Chromebooks – each child in Years 3-6 is provided with an individual Chromebook as part of their stationery set. While we charge a $45 annual stationery fee to cover items such as books, mini whiteboards, and stationery basics, the cost of a Chromebook is not covered by the fee charged.
IXL Online Maths and English Subscription – Every student has access to this high-quality online learning platform, helping them strengthen their numeracy and literacy skills.
Lower Class Sizes – Our school board funds 2-3 additional teachers beyond our government-allocated staffing ratios. This allows us to maintain smaller class sizes, ensuring students receive more individualized attention and support in their learning.
