Eilís is a kaiako in Harakeke Hub, and she is also our fabulous PE and Sports lead kaiako. She passionately advocates for fitness and sport across our school, and works extremely hard to ensure our tamariki have a range of sporting and movement experiences across the year, both during school time and outside of school. When Eilís isn't advocating for and organising many different kinds of sports for ngā ākonga, she is also spending much of her personal time training and playing Gaelic football. This July she will be competing at an international level in the GAA World Games.
GAA stands for Gaelic Athletic Association, which is Ireland's largest sporting organisation. It consists of four indigenous Irish games: hurling, Gaelic football, handball, and rounders. Here is a list of teams competing in the different events.
Eilís will be on leave for the first three weeks of next term while she is in Ireland for the World Games, and she will also be able to pop in and say kia ora (or more likely, aon scéal - how's it going) to her proud whānau at the same time. Jenny will be teaching Eilís's groups in Harakeke while she is away.
We wish Eilís all the very best in her amazing endeavour, and we hope she thoroughly enjoys the unique experience of representing Australasia in the World Games. We will keep in touch around how our Australasian team goes, and keep you updated.
Comhghairdeachas, congratulations Eilís, we know you will be amazing. When you compete, know that your Amesbury whānau will be shouting loudly for you.
