Ākonga (students) arrived at school excited to give a range of athletics events a go. There were five events that ākonga participated in;
- long jump,
- high jump,
- sprints (long & short),
- quoits, and
- vortex
Students rotated around these events in mixed groups, having a go at each event. All the teachers were impressed with the ‘give it a go’ attitude of our students. We had a slight interruption where we had to head back inside when the typical Wellington rain made a brief appearance, but luckily it cleared and we were able to continue with our events!
When asked, ākonga in Koru Hub said that our Junior Athletics Carnival was fun and awesome, though it was different with the rain. While they were tired at the end of the day, ākonga were glad they had a chance to showcase their energy and talents at the various events throughout the day.
We are grateful that this event was able to go ahead and are glad that our ākonga had a wonderful time participating in all the different athletics events. Here are some snapshots of the Junior Athletics Carnival, so whānau (family) can celebrate, together with our ākonga, their success and effort.
