Organisers decided to open the day with the middle distance events at 9:30am which saw six Amesbury ākonga compete in the 800m race. All athletes were quick out of the block setting a blistering pace before settling in for the two lap event.
The first rotation of field events started at 10:15am where our kura had strong representation in the quoits, vortex, high jump and long jump. Each of the competitors gave it their all in every one of their attempts and the school is particularly proud of how they conducted yourselves and the way they treated the other athletes with respect. A particular mention to the Year 4 ākonga who were attending the event for the first time, what a brilliant opportunity this was for you to showcase your talents and gain experience.
All ākonga were excited which was evident from their big smiles throughout the day. Click here to view the action shots and team photos.
The ever-exciting relays closed out the day in dramatic style. The crowd were cheering and shouting loudly as the teams made their way down the home straight and over the finish line. What a fantastic end to a fun yet tiring day!
A huge well done to all the athletes who represented our kura at the Northern Zones. Keep up the hard work and training and we hope to see you back again next year. A final word of thanks to the parents who helped transport the tamariki to and from the venue and for supporting them during the events. Results can be viewed by following this link.
Best wishes for the eight qualifying athletes who continue to the InterZone event on Tuesday 21st November. They are Lachlan, Shiloh, Ruby K, Jade, Josh H, Heidi, Sofia C and Jiya. We are all behind you!
