Share and Celebrate - Week 2

By: Urs Cunningham | Posted Thursday February 8, 2024

This week we held our very first Share and Celebrate event, and it was a wonderful way to end the week. Staff and teams called up ākonga (students) who had been noticed doing something we felt needed to be celebrated. We also sang a number of songs and it was a raucous and positive note to finish on.

Our Share and Celebrate events are not just for in-school achievements. If your child has been involved in something outside of school that deserves a mention in our celebrations, please let your child's whānau teacher know and we will add it to our list for the next Share and Celebrate.

Below are the ākonga who were celebrated this week:

Week 2 Celebrations

- Nia and Jade: Both girls were part of the children's choir in the visiting production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. You were on stage singing throughout, in front of a huge audience. What a fabulous and very brave thing to do, ka rawe - amazing!

- Allee, Zoe, Gabriella, Esita, Aanya, Miesha, Angela Y, Paige, Shenaya, JD, Nixon, Josh, Eden, Osamah, Monty, Clara, LJ, and Reyaansh: These ākonga all volunteered (with very little notice or practice) to be kaea (leaders) in our week 1 mihi whakatau welcome. They all stood up in front of the whole school and all our manuhiri (visitors) to take leadership in some way. Special well done to JD who led the school through the event in knowing when to sit and stand. You all showed fabulous leadership. Well done for stepping forward to do this, and for doing it so well.

- Esita, Maletā, and Sima: You noticed a new student in Koru Hub looking a bit unsure, so you introduced yourselves to her and asked her a little about herself, to see if she needed a friend. What fabulous friendship.

- Shenaya and Esita: You have been noticed a number of times being very willing to offer kindness and support to others. Tino pai, well done.

- Victoria Y: You have been an amazing friend and source of support for one of our international students. You have shown him around, and supported him and his family both at school and outside of school. Well done for showing such kindness.

- Arthur, Laylah, Dishon, and Yitong: You have all jumped into life at Amesbury School amazingly well and settled so quickly; it is as if you have always been here. Your kaiako (teachers) wanted to give a shout out to the four of you for settling into your new learning environment so well.

- Lucca L: Well done for doing the right thing and being a good kaitiaki (guardian of the environment) even when you thought no-one was noticing. You were spotted noticing a rubbish bin that had tipped over and that some paper towels had fallen out. You picked everything up and then just carried on. Fabulous guardianship of our space.

- Divan and Johnson: You have both shown multiple examples of being a good kaitiaki (guardian), both inside and outside of the hub. One example of this is the way you noticed that our large outdoor chess set was not being used, so you have begun to explore ways you can support ākonga (students) to use this resource. Well done for taking initiative and looking to use our environment and resources well.

- Allee and Anna: You have both shown fabulous whanaungatanga (connections and relationships) in connecting and supporting a new international student.

- John: Showing mana and leadership in talking through your mathematical thinking and how you solved the questions with the rest of the group, and also in supporting others around you with their maths learning.

- Aanya: Super friendship welcoming and supporting new ākonga to Amesbury School

Well done to all of our amazing leaders, brave risk takers and wonderful friends - you are fabulous role models for other tamariki. We look forward to celebrating another amazing group of ākonga in two weeks' time.
