On Tuesday 29th August, Wednesday 30th August, and Friday 1st September, our young explorers set foot in Capital E. The air was charged with excitement as they stepped into this haven of creativity.

NZ On Air

Capital E's NZ On Air program provided an exceptional opportunity for our ākonga to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of filmmaking. They discovered that filmmaking is more than just actors and directors; it's a symphony of roles, each contributing to the magic of storytelling. Here are just a few of the roles that some ākonga took on.

  • Script Writing: Our budding screenwriters honed their skills in crafting narratives and setting up a teleprompter.
  • Camera Operating: Armed with cameras, our young cinematographers explored the art of capturing breathtaking visuals.
  • Presenters: Some of our ākonga stepped in front of the camera, mastering the art of presentation and public speaking.
  • Costume Designers: In the world of filmmaking, aesthetics play a crucial role. Our students got hands-on experience coordinating costumes that brought characters and stories to life.
  • Sound Technicians: Delving into the auditory aspects of filmmaking, our ākonga discovered how sound can elevate a scene's emotional impact.
  • Managers: Teamwork is key in filmmaking. Our students experienced the importance of effective management in the film industry, ensuring every element came together seamlessly.

The Result: 10-Minute Videos

The culmination of this exciting journey was the creation of 10-minute masterpieces. Our Pōhutukawa ākonga collaborated, experimented, and poured their creative energy into crafting these news rooms. Each video was a unique voyage into the imagination of these young filmmakers, showcasing their newfound skills and artistic expression.

The joy, excitement, and sense of accomplishment were palpable as they screened their films for their peers, teachers, and the Capital E staff.

A final thank you to our parent helpers! Without you, we wouldn't have been able to make the trip a reality.

Cheers to the future filmmakers of tomorrow!
