Our ākonga had the fantastic opportunity to showcase their swimming skills and participate in a fun-filled day of water-based activities, at the recent Senior Swimming Sports event held at Tawa Pool.
Our ākonga had this to say:
'I liked freestyle swimming because I was good at it.' - Bella H (Y4)
'I loved that everyone seemed to have fun, and the races were fair. It was good that everyone got points for trying their hardest and just being in the pool.' - Zara (Y6)
'I loved that we got points for our whānau for participating in the fun pool.' - Mahnoor (Y5)
'I liked the paddle boarding activity the most, it was so much fun.' - Isla (Y4)
'I really enjoyed Swim Sports because it was fun for everyone, even the people who did not really want to race (not me) and the people who were fired up and ready to race. The races were fair with the winners getting the same amount of points as the losers and the non competitive people.' - Arthur Y (Yr6)
'I loved the whānau relay because it was one lap, we had a buddy to swim with and we competed against other whānau. If you were not that fast, then your buddy could catch the other swimmers.' - Annie O (Y5)
'I liked the mixed whānau race. I liked that we could get bonus points for cheering on our friends.' - Paige (Y6)
'I loved the kicking my legs when holding onto the paddle board.' - Maia (Y4)
'I enjoyed the swimming competition because there were many choices to pick from, sometimes we would have to go to the qualifying round and sometimes straight to the finals. It was also fun because when two or more people were swimming, everyone would cheer and when it was a close call, everyone would bet on who would win or if it would be a tie. Personally, I had a great time, not only because I could watch most of the races when I wasn't racing, but also it was really exciting as the points we earned would be added to the Whānau Olympics.' - Yiqi (Yr6)
'I had lots of fun with my friends in the learning pool.' - Monty (Yr6)
'I liked that the swimming was collaborative because we could race with other people.' - Emily (Y5)
'I liked that there were non-competitive races because no-one lost.' - Jules (Y4)
The results of the competitive races are available here.
Once again, congratulations to all the students who participated in the Senior Swimming Sports, and a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to the event's success.
