The Winter Project coordinates and collects winter clothing and blankets that then get distributed to low decile schools with families-in-need across the Wellington region. These people might need some extra warmth for the cold nights ahead entering into winter. This organisation was started by a group of Marsden students 6 years ago who wanted to make a difference in the community, and the current group are now the fourth generation running it.The group is contacting families in our community to support them in collecting winter clothing by donating warm items of clothing, such as warm jumpers, pants, jackets, polyprops, blankets, beanies, scarves, gloves etc. The girls believe that by encouraging students to help other tamariki to give back, it will teach them about the importance of helping others, and also give the students the opportunity to think of other ways to help in the community.The girls' plan is to deliver the clothes at the end of May, and they will collect any donations we have received by the end of April. We will have a donation box in the reception area at school, and we will gather and store any donations. Please ensure that the items are washed and in good condition. If you can send in donated items with your tamariki, that would be fabulous.
