Mihi Whakatau
It was wonderful to have so many whānau onsite for our mihi whakatau, not only those with their tamariki who have recently started but so many tangata whenua who were their to support the new comers.
We welcomed total of 24 new ākonga and 3 kaiako to Amesbury School on this occasion. It was with great excitement that they were formally welcomed into the Amesbury whānau.
Mihimihi were given by ākonga from each Hub. This was followed by a whaikorero. The new students and teachers (Jingwen, Sophia & Nicola) were then individually presented and took their place amongst the rest of the school as tangata whenua.
As usual, we then ended the mihi whakatau with kai.
Meet 'n' Greet
Then, after school, we saw many whānau at our Meet ‘n’ Greet event. It was such a relaxed atmosphere with everyone chatting with each other, the tamariki taking the opportunity to play during the lovely warm late afternoon, and of course kai - pizzas and a sausage sizzle.
It was also an opportunity for whānau to hear kaiako provide short presentations on hub set ups for the year and to take the opportunity to discuss issues around their children's learning.
