Our Share & Celebrate events are a time to acknowledge and celebrate ākonga (students) who have been noticed doing something great. This can be for anything from an act of kindness, to great efforts in learning or taking care of the environment. If you have fabulous things your have been doing outside of school that you would like to share and celebrate, please email the details to your child's whānau teacher.

Here are the fabulous people who were celebrated this week:

  • Henry: Last week we had a group of kaiako visiting our kura.  They were so impressed with the way that you explained how you know what to do when you are not in a workshop. You showed them your Google Classroom tasks and HERO.  You knew where to find your learning goals and which goals to attach to your learning posts.  Ka rawe, awesome!

  • Daniel A: Daniel has been doing incredible work in Literacy this term. He is putting so much effort into his reading. It is always a joy to read with Daniel, because of his hard work and amazing expression. Keep up the great mahi, Daniel!

  • Zoe, Tiffany, Shenaya, Hanson, Victoria Y, Emily C, Miesha, Durrah, Alana, Paige, Angela Yang, Arthur Y, Eden, Lucca L, Mahnoor - the 'dumpling crew': This group of people dedicated their time after school to make dumplings for our Cultural Event last Friday. Thank you for your helping hands and contributing to our whole community.

  • Hayden L: Hayden was the only child from Amesbury School to participate in the Mt Kau Kau Challenge which was organised by Khandallah School. He came 19th out of 44 students in his age group. It took him 1 hour and 9 minutes to walk up the mountain and back down again. Fabulous effort, Hayden.

  • Sophia P: Last week you played with a student that requires a little bit of extra support while out in the playground. You were friendly and encouraging, assisting him while walking over the log bridge of the big playground and making sure the slide was clear of other students before he went down. You were patient and compassionate and this deserves to be celebrated. We are so lucky to have such caring ākonga (students) at Amesbury School.

  • Ethan L: Ethan worked really hard over his week 5 literacy sessions to complete his Acrostic poem. He persevered when it was challenging and made sure it was done to a high standard - ka rawe!

  • Ariana: Ariana stayed in during her whole lunch time to help Koru check all of the chromebooks, make sure they had labels and were in the right place. She did this with a positive and can do attitude. Thank you for your help.

  • Atlas: During your drum lessons, you have been trying really hard to do hard drum beats, and you have been making an effort to help your other classmate as much as possible. You have been showing them how to hit the snare, and guiding them through the drum beats. I am really impressed with your kindness towards your other classmate, and your willingness to challenge yourself.

  • Judah: The teachers have noticed you have been working really hard this year, especially in spelling. You should be very proud of yourself. Awesome work!

  • Evaan: I have noticed and enjoyed seeing Evaan’s positive attitude whenever he is at school. He is consistently cheerful, and fun to be around. We know that Evaan will always brighten the room, and we are lucky to have him in Koru Hub.

  • Callan, Skyreen, Haiden, Ruby, and Rena: These tamariki have made fantastic progress in maths. They are standing out for me when we do whānau maths. They are always working really hard, and are awesome at applying their knowledge and problem solving skills to new questions. I am super impressed with their efforts.

  • Daniel and John T: Daniel and John have been doing incredible work in Literacy this term. They are putting so much effort into their reading in particular. It is always a joy to read with Daniel and John, because of their hard work and amazing expression. Keep up the great mahi!

  • Weylyn and Hunter R: Weylyn and Hunter have been working on extremely difficult drum beats over the last year, and their hard work stands out above the other drummers. Each lesson they do, they commit super hard to challenging themselves and being the best they can be. They are also both amazingly kind in class, and always help each other. Hunter was new to drums this year, and Weylyn was super welcoming and supportive to him.

  • Harriet, Iza, Aiden, Ollie: During P.E you were being great tuakana (older people supporting someone younger) to your buddies and showed great patience and care for them when practising your throwing skills and jumping over the hurdles. Thank you for being great leaders!

  • Liliana and Milan: You two always make me feel very welcome when I am a kaiako in Māwhero.  You greet me with a smile and are eager to help me set something up if you know I need help.  Ngā mihi kōrua (thanks to you two).

  • Eden: Eden was nominated for a shout out by a parent who watched him being a super kaitiaki of our school. After school one evening Eden saw some chalk drawings on the basketball court that were not okay for school. He asked the parent to pour water on it, and then used his hands to rub the chalk away. Tino pai for taking such care of our school, Eden. Also, super work getting two shout outs in one week!

  • Bailey and Alice: You showed amazing leadership during your trip to Space place helping younger tamariki with the flying fox as well shifting places in the bus to make sure everyone was happy.

  • Mithul: Mithul, you are a great friend to everyone in Māwhero. Even though you only started at Amesbury last term, when someone new arrives in our space you are always the friendly expert, with a big smile and some help. We appreciate the way you take care of others Tino pai e hoa!

  • Adam Z: Adam, thank you for being a good friend to Booth. You have been looking out for him at break times.

  • Sima, Ruby, Maletā, Luca, Taksheel, Millie, Johnson, & Jade: Huge well done to you all for competing at the Inter Zone Athletics event. Special shout out to Millie, Johnson, and Jade who qualified for Regional Finals for Athletics in Vortex (Millie), 800m (Johnson) and quoits (Jade). Ka rawe, awesome work.

  • Sueli: You give all of your effort when writing poetry. Ka pai e koe for your continuous effort and hard work.

  • Ire and Taksheel: Ire & Taksheel have shown significant improvement over their year and are always eager to learn new skills. Both of them have managed to finish an entire keyboard book this year, and their progress has been super quick.

Well done to all of our outstanding ākonga. Super work participating, giving it your very best, leading, helping, supporting, learning, and encouraging around our kura, and also achieving fabulous things outside of school as well. Ka pai te mahi, well done.
