In literacy, ngā ākonga have particularly enjoyed writing, with many expressing enthusiasm for creating stories and exploring their imaginations. Writing about topics that excite them, like unicorns for one student, has made this a favourite learning area. Many have also embraced the joy of reading, noting how fun it is to dive into new books and stories. Ngā ākonga have been improving their handwriting skills too, with some commenting on how helpful terms like "tall stick/twig" for the letter ‘t’ and "gumnut cup/short stick" for the letter ‘u’ have been.
Maths has been another popular subject, with ngā ākonga enjoying working with numbers and discovering new concepts. Independently solving problems has been motivating for many, while activities like discovery time have made learning fun. A popular discovery activity is the ice cream cone and scoops game, where a cone might have the number 18 on it, and students must find scoops that add up to 18.
Physical activity remains a core part of the school day, with ngā ākonga participating in various sports and games. Football, tag, and rippa rugby have been among the most enjoyed activities during playtime. Thursday dance with Hannah was a favourite too. The monkey bars and big playground are also common spots for play.
Socially, students have enjoyed making new friends, talking with older students, and spending time playing with their peers.
As Term 3 ends, it's clear that ngā ākonga have enjoyed learning, playing, and growing together. We look forward to seeing even more progress and fun in Term 4!
