We are so happy to be able to acknowledge the activities that tamariki are able to do outside of school and love sharing these with the community.

Jiya (Pōhutukawa)

In the Tennis New Zealand 12U Kiwi Indoor Championships held from August 27 to 29, Jiya reached the quarter-finals. That means he played very well and made it quite far in the competition.

In the Wellington Short Course Swimming Championships, which took place from June 23 to 25, Jiya showed outstanding skills and won an impressive total of 9 gold medals. He excelled in various swimming events, including 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley (IM), 50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly, and 100m Freestyle. On top of that, he also secured 4 silver medals, demonstrating his consistent excellence in swimming.

Congratulations Jiya!

Aanya (Pōhutukawa)

Aanya's deep dedication to the traditional Indian dance form of Kathak has led her on an inspiring journey. Under the guidance of the renowned Jhankar Kathak group, she has embraced Kathak with unwavering enthusiasm, building a solid foundation in this intricate art.

Recently, Aanya achieved a significant milestone when she performed at the Indian High Commission in honour of India's 77th Independence Day celebration. This showcased not only her talent but also her strong connection to Indian culture.

Aanya's journey doesn't end there. Her talent has earned her invitations to perform at Diwali celebrations in Wellington and Wanganui. Her graceful movements will add elegance to these events and spread cultural joy.

In these upcoming performances, Aanya will not only demonstrate her impeccable dance skills but also share the richness of Indian culture and its deep significance. Her dedication to Kathak and her commitment to preserving India's cultural heritage makes her an inspiring artist who will leave a lasting impact on her audience.

(Bahut badhiya) - Ka rawe Aanya!

Booth (Harakeke):

A talented Lego enthusiast, Booth has been honoured with the prestigious opportunity to showcase his exceptional Lego creations at Te Papa, on the upcoming dates of September 23rd and 24th. This exciting exhibition is an integral part of a brand-new Lego showcase organized in collaboration with Autism New Zealand.

In preparation for this remarkable event, Booth is diligently crafting an awe-inspiring Lego masterpiece that will undoubtedly captivate the imagination of all who visit Te Papa during this time. We eagerly anticipate the unveiling of his creation. Photos will come later.

Awesome work Booth, we are looking forward to seeing your masterpiece! Mīharo Booth!

Miesha (Harakeke):

Miesha has been playing rugby since she was 4 years old, for both Wainuiomata and Newlands clubs. She enjoys the sport and is very dedicated. She puts her all into the games and training more often than not, and is the only girl on the team.

Throughout the season Miesha has gone home with multiple "Player of the Day" and "Fair Play" awards from her own team and the opposition team too.

A few weeks ago Miesha was awarded "Most Valuable Player" for her team and then "Best Female Tackle Player for 2023" for the club. This is a huge achievement and we are all very proud of her.

Ka Rawe Miesha!

John, Andy & Kyle (Harakeke), Oliver (Pōhutukawa):

In August, Oliver, John, Andy, and Kyle represented Amesbury School in the Regional Interschool Chess Championship in Wellington. All boys did extremely well individually and represented Amesbury School with pride. In fact, they did so well that Amesbury School won 1st place as a team in the junior division.

Individually, Oliver came in 1st place & John was placed 2nd in the junior division, and qualified national final to be held in Auckland in October.

Ka rawe team!
