Amesbury's Farewell Assembly was held on Tuesday with various ākonga to celebrate and a number of sad farewells.
While it was disappointing that whānau could not join us for the assembly, they could watch the livestream. The link to the livestream is still available and can be found in the Hero notification provided just prior to the start of the event.
The morning began with the presentation of the 6 Amesbury Awesomeness Awards for Terms 3 & 4. If you want to find out who received these awards please go to the Amesbury Awesomeness Awards link.
Everyone was then very excited to find out who won the 2021 Year 6 Leadership Award as presented in a public ceremony by the Mayor of Wellington. Who was it? You will need to follow the Year 6 Leadership Award link.
This award was followed by the presentation of 6 special Year 6 Pōhutukawa awards. These recognised the particular impact these ākonga made to the school in the time they were at Amesbury. The recipients were Ciara, Emily, Vinuka, Josh, Annabelle & Xiangyi.
It was then time to say a fond but sad farewell to those who were leaving Amesbury. Firstly, all of our Year 6 ākonga - some of whom have been here since they turned five and others who have enrolled since. They all enriched the Amesbury whānau and we wish them all the best as they move onto various intermediate schools. Demelza took the opportunity to share a few words with them and to encourage them in their future journeys. We also said goodbye to a small group who were also leaving Amesbury to attend others schools with Lisa sharing her thoughts with them.
Farewell presentations were then made to the four kaiako who were pursuing other opportunities that have arisen. So it was with sadness that we farewelled Elena, Zoe, Yeping, Zelda & Jenny.
With a final haere rā from Urs and a whole school waiata, the tamariki left the gathering to meet up in their hubs where they used the time for fun, reflection & further celebration.
A school picnic was supposed to follow but the Wellington weather had it's say so improvising, once again, meant that this was quickly changed to an inside picnic consisting of a sausage sizzle and ice blocks. It still all tasted just as good.
With that all done, it was time to leave school for the year - in the rain. But that didn't dampen any spirits as the tamariki patiently waited for their parents to pick them up. In fact the opportunity was taken to give heaps of hugs and enjoy the extra few minutes together.
