Amesbury School’s walking bus is a safe and fun way for our students to travel to school. Under adult supervision, our students walk along designated routes to school, picking up kids along the way just like a bus. Our service is run by school parent volunteers and it’s with considerable gratitude that we acknowledge the ongoing effort of the parents who kindly donate their time – without which the service would not exist. If you would like to be a bus driver please let us know through HERE
Next week’s Walk to School Week at Amesbury School will bring extra fun and festivity for our walkers including theme days with spot prizes, a colouring competition (picture attached), and recognition for everyone who walks all five days (remember to get bus tickets stamped each day). Here’s the itinerary :
Monday – Wear your favourite hat ! Also pickup your “write the caption” competition form from the bus driver
Tuesday – Kick up your heels and wear your craziest socks !
Wednesday – Bring a friend – could be a school friend, or a favourite teddy bear friend, or even man’s best friend ! (if it’s the latter then mum or dad will need to walk too)
Thursday – As a group, find 15 things beginning with the letter of the alphabet given to you by your Bus Driver
Friday – the Big Walk – let’s see how many people we can get walking and beat our previous record !
Why join in the walking bus ?
Well apart from being great fun, the walking school bus can :
How do students jump onboard ?
Students simply wait anywhere along one of our three different bus routes. Years 0-2 need to wait with a parent or older sibling. This term we’ve implemented a few tweaks to some schedules/routes in response to user feedback – a big thank you for letting us know your needs so that the service can remain relevant to our community. We love to see parents and pre-school siblings also joining us
The three different bus routes are :

There is no set requirement for donating your time, parents add their own name to the roster as often as fits in with their own busy schedules – for some this means once or more per week, for others once per month. Feel free to email walkingbus@amesbury.school.nz, or call/text 0212724321 or come and chat with Angela (Matilda’s mum year 3) at pickup/drop off.
