Strike Action for Primary Principals

A reminder that Primary Principals are taking strike action this term in support of their Collective Agreement negotiations.

These actions do not follow the usual form and, as such, will not impact the smooth running of the school nor the learning and wellbeing of your tamariki. However, these actions will significantly impact our work and connection with the Ministry of Education, particularly the progress of the work happening currently on updating our New Zealand Curriculum.

Jemima's Student Conferences

As Jemima was away during the last week of last term due to illness, she was unable to hold her student conferences. These will now be held this week.

If your child is in Jemima's whānau group, please ensure you have booked a conference with her for this week.

Student Attendance Term 1 2023

The data for Term 1 attendance is in, so take a few moments to read through the information and, if it is relevant to your tamariki, please consider the impact that it has on your child's learning and take the suggested actions.

Amesbury Cross Country - Thursday 27 April

Our annual school Cross Country event will take place on Thursday this week.

Tamariki will be lacing up their shoes and toeing the line on Thursday 27th April. The distances are as follows:

  • Y1-2 = 1 lap approx. 500m,
  • Y3-4 = 2 laps approx. 1000m, and
  • Y5-6 = 3 laps approx. 1500m

The first race will commence at 11:10am.

There will be an early morning tea on this day to allow for the tamariki to eat and change their clothes. We ask for all tamariki to have suitable footwear and a change of clothes for this day in case they get wet and muddy.

The Cross Country event will still go ahead even if it's wet. If the health and safety of our tamariki is in doubt due to extreme weather conditions the postponement date of Tuesday 2nd May will be used instead.

We welcome supporters and whānau to come on site and support our budding athletes.

For further info please have a look through the School Cross Country notification.

If you would be help and be a marshal on the track please let me know via email at eilis@amesbury.school.nz.

We aim to develop and enhance balls skills, catching, kicking, and throwing, while improving strength, flexibility, hand/eye coordination and spatial awareness. We teach new skills and improve ability by using games, drills and exercises. It’s a great way to try new sports and maintain fitness – all while having fun!!

In Term 2 we will be focusing on the following sports:
Basketball, Netball, Football and Rippa Rugby

To enrol go to www.kellysports.co.nz and put "Amesbury" in the school box.

SH58 Weekend Road Closure

SH58 will close for the entire weekend from 8pm on Friday 28 April night to 4am on Monday 1 May. The closure may be postponed if wet weather is forecast.

The closure is to enable the SH58 Safety Improvements project to complete road reconstruction work.

Traffic will detour via Ngauranga Interchange, meaning higher than normal traffic across SH1 and SH2. People travelling anywhere around the state highway network may experience delays at busy times as a result. See map below.

We are asking all road users to allow extra time for their journeys, and those travelling between the Hutt Valley and Porirua to plan ahead for the detour.
