School Closed On Thursday (16 March)

You no doubt have seen/read that kaiako (teachers) and tumuaki (principals) have voted to take strike action on Thursday 16th March.

Amesbury School will be closed for instruction on Thursday 16th March, which means children will not be coming to school for learning on that day.

For more information please read Urs's article.

Progress on our new Hub Building

Urs has provided an update of where the new hub construction is at - including photos. Please follow this link to read all about it.

Observing Ramadan

We are looking to support students who will be fasting during Ramadan.

To this end we will provide a space where fasting tamariki can retreat whilst others are eating. Additionally, we would like to run some activities every Friday during lunchtime in the Library to grow all students' knowledge about this important celebration.

For all of the details and how you can help please see Gina's article.

Northern Suburbs Netball

We are looking for ākonga of all ages to represent Amesbury in Saturday netball.

If you are interested please follow this link for further details and registration. Registrations close at 4pm on Wednesday 29th March.

Out of School Celebrations

Once again we are wanting to hear from you around your tamariki's achievements outside of school so that we can share them with the wider Amesbury whānau. For more info please read this item.

If you have something that you are proud to share please forward the details and photos to Kirat kirat@amesbury.school.nz.

Lost Property (Helmets)

These helmets have been hiding away since last year. Do you recognise them as yours? If so, please retrieve them from the office.

Contagious/communicable illnesses

All contagious/communicable illnesses must be advised to the office as this helps us to track any trends, advise our school community to be on the lookout, and ensures immediate notification to the parents of students who have lowered immune systems due to the treatment of serious medical conditions.

In particular, Chicken Pox and Measles can have serious implications for these students, so the sooner the families are informed of infectious exposure, the sooner they can get the appropriate treatment to prevent potentially serious complications.

In addition to these, and Covid, the attached sheet has a list of others that we need to know about.

Beanies

Need a warm hat for the upcoming cooler weather in term 2? We have 10 second hand beanies in stock for $5 each. Or order new via Kindo for $15

Clothing backup - for ALL STUDENTS

Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in the school bag (for all ages) with a plastic bag to put the soiled/wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them to get changed into if they have an accident, or get wet/muddy at school.

For some children it can be quite embarrassing or upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available. We have limited space to hold a selection of spares so are not always able to cater for all 'requests' and sizes.

2nd hand School Uniform

Now's a good time to get some cheap $5 spares from our second hand range as we have too many to store - let Rachel know what size and she can put them aside for you to come and have a look.
