Observing Ramadan

At Amesbury School we are very proud of the multiple cultures and beliefs that our students and communities bring; we are always on the lookout for ways to support them so that they can feel proud of their identity.

As many of you may know, March 21st marks the beginning of Ramadan; a sacred month of reflection that marks when Allah sent an angel to Prophet Muhammad to reveal the Quran.

Last year, a number of our students took part in the fasting during Ramadan. This year, we would like to provide an opportunity for children to share their knowledge, as well as provide a space where they can retreat whilst others are eating.

In addition, we would like to run some activities every Friday during lunchtime in the Library to grow all students' knowledge about this important celebration. We are looking for some helpers (parents and or students) to support us by coming to share their expertise, bringing books or materials that can be used in growing our knowledge or helping in the running of some arts and crafts activities.

If you or your child would like to take part in organising some activities for this time, or if your child will be fasting and wishes to join other children fasting during break time, please email me at gina@amesbury.school.nz. Alternatively, you or your child can come to talk to me directly.

We are looking forward to hearing from you,
