Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2022 (Māori Language Week)

This week is Māori Language Week. This year is an extra special year as it is the 50th Anniversary of Te Petihana (Māori Language petition).

Please take the opportunity to read through Amaria's article which provides you with links to the school's focus this term - ngā tau (numbers) and ngā kai (food) - as well as links to help you get started.

School Board By-Election

Nominations have been called for three casual parent representatives vacancies on the school board.

The Returning Officer has provided the required information in the formal notification here.

Nominations must be submitted to the Returning Officer no later than noon on Thursday 29th September, 2022.

Online Conferences for Term 3

A reminder to book in for the online conferences if you haven't done so already.

The conferences will be held online and parents/caregivers are asked to book a time. All of the information, including links, are in the HERO notification that you have already received.

If you have any questions about the set up of the conference please contact your child's whānau teacher.

The Learning Partner - a new teaching role

Amesbury has implemented a new system to best support teachers with their continued growth and development - the learning partner.

Please take the time to read through Urs's article to see what is involved and how this ultimately directly benefits the teachers provided to our tamariki.

Love Tennis

Last Tuesday a number of our tamariki took the opportunity to 'have a go' at tennis which, by all accounts, was a very enjoyable and well received session.

Sunday 11 September is national Love Tennis Day and everybody is welcome to head down to the Churton Park Tennis Club at 11am to take part in the fun-filled day.

Pōhutukawa Hub Community Walk

On Thursday afternoon this week, Pōhutukawa Hub will be heading out on a walk around our community to take part in 'Clean up Churton Park Day'. 

We will be heading out with our rubbish gloves and bags to collect any rubbish we come across. Please give us a wave if you see us out and about! 

Term 3 Disco - this Friday

The Disco is planned for Friday 16 September.

This is an event that is always eagerly anticipated, so book tickets for your tamariki, and pre purchase pizza. 

As always, we are looking for volunteers to assist the smooth running of the event so, if you are able, can you please email Gar Kee (garkee@amesbury.school.nz) and let her know that you can help. Thanks so much.

Onesie Day

What a wonderful array of onesies were on display for 'Onesie Day' on Friday.

Among the fun was the opportunity to raise funds for Wellington Free Ambulance who do such an essential job in our community. We thank everyone for their contributions which will be forwarded on.

Kelly Club Holiday Programme

Kelly Club Amesbury Holiday Programmes focus on giving children aged between 5 and 13 the opportunity to do things they enjoy in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.

This programme is packed with activities to entertain and inspire children. We have some exciting days planned: Time Travellers' Day, Kiwiana Day, Spy Academy, Island Gateway Day, Top Speed Day, plus trips to Awesome Bounce, Space Place, Roller Skating and Wellington Museum.

Football Morning Holiday Programme 

(Yrs. 1–8) Wests Rugby Clubrooms, Wilton (all weather indoor surface).

Perfect for beginners and those just wanting to have fun! Come along and improve technique, knowledge and learn more about the basic skills of "The Beautiful Game" (Football).

We will focus on the core skills of control, dribbling, passing, tackling, shooting but most importantly having as much fun as possible!

Week 1 - Tues, Wed, Thurs 9.30am-12.30pm, Week 2 - Tues, Weds, Thurs 9.30am-12.30pm.

Netball Holiday Programme

Rāroa Normal Intermediate School Week 2 - Tues, Weds, Thurs 9am-12pm

Years 1-4 - These sessions will work on improving basic netball skills and start to develop technical and tactical knowledge in accordance with the Future Ferns programme. Children will improve their passing, shooting, spatial awareness and defensive skills.
Years 5-8 - These sessions will work on sharpening the basics like passing and shooting and we will learn to develop a better understanding of the 7 aside game and the different positional roles.
We use fun games and drills to develop and challenge young players focusing on the key skill areas of their level of development while also having fun!

Parents for Climate Aotearoa

Ignite Consultants, a student group from Victoria University is, on behalf of Parents for Climate Aotearoa (PCFA), conducting a survey to find out how parents feel about climate change, and if they discuss it with their children.

PFCA is a charity that was founded in 2019 and helps facilitate conversations about climate change between parents and children. They are committed as parents to leaving a better world behind for their children.
