Sports at Amesbury

Amesbury school supports the decision of PSW (Primary Sports Wellington) to cancel all across-school sports across the region this term.

PSW released the following statement:

"PSW recommends ALL Zones cancel their Zone sporting activity in Term 1, such as cricket and football tournaments, while we are under Red Traffic Light restrictions. The increased difficulty for event organisers to comply and work within permitted guidelines and not knowing with any certainty when the Omicron peak infection rates will hit this region. We believe by supporting the schools to organise zone sporting events in Term 1, it will expose this organisation and its membership to too much risk."

We hope that these disruptions will be limited to Term 1 and that the events will be able to continue as normal in Term 2. It is envisaged that by Term 2, New Zealand will be on the downward curve of the predicted Omicron spike and, therefore, we will likely be out of the Red level.

We will keep you informed as we progress through the school year. In the meantime, we will continue to practice P.E in each hub, taking extra measures to ensure the safety of our tamariki (students) and staff.
