Beach Education Programme

By: Eilis Cassidy | Posted Friday October 15, 2021

The programme will be run by Surf Life Saving New Zealand and will take place at Worser Bay Beach. All hubs will take part in an age-appropriate, day-long programme involving activities around water and beach-based safety. This programme will help your child learn key skills ahead of the long summer break.

The day will be broken into three sections; theory (completed in the club house), beach activities and water activities.

The expected cost of this activity is around $23 but confirmation will be given when numbers are confirmed. The price will cover the cost of the programme and the bus journey to and from Worser Bay.

We strongly recommend all students participate in this programme and we thank you all in advance for supporting us in ensuring this programme goes ahead.

Given the water-based nature of this programme, it is imperative that we meet the necessary ratio of adult helpers to students. In order to keep everyone safe and to get the most out of the programme we require one adult to every five students. We can therefore not rely solely on the teaching staff of Amesbury and will require help from our parents, caregivers and whānau. Please note that all adults will have to enter and remain in the water for a duration so a wetsuit or rash vest is advisable.

If students cannot participate in this programme for any reason, they will be able to stay at school under the supervision of other teachers. We ask that you still fill out the permission form so we have an indication of how many students will be staying at school on these days.

There will be a follow up article that will include more specific details on what your child is required to take on the day of the programme.
