Amesbury Notices - 20 September 2021

Alert Level 2

While we remain in Alert Level 2 we are minimizing formal activities that bring people beyond our Level 2 boundaries that are not our students or staff. However, if you need to come onsite please either sign in at the Hub if that is where you are going, or the office for all other visits. While onsite we ask that you maintain social distancing and we also strongly recommend that you wear a mask.

Term 3 Online Conferences

Amesbury School will be holding our second round of student conferences in the final week of this term. Due to our current alert level, these conferences will be held online.

An article with all of the details, including how to book, are included in the HERO notification that you received on 12 September.

If you haven't booked a time already, please do so. Bookings close at 8am on Wednesday 29 September.

Wet weather clothing backup

Wet weather is still upon us - so are the puddles and mud. Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in the school bag (for all ages) with a plastic bag to put the wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them.

For some children it can be quite upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available. We have limited space to hold a small selection of spares but are not always able to cater for all sizes and requests.

Alternatively, you could purchase some of our 2nd hand clothing as a back up to send along with your child(ren) each day. Polos in excellent condition are as little as $5. We have large amount of various sizes and colours in stock.

Walk or Wheel Week

This week (Monday 20 - Friday 24) our school will be celebrating spring by encouraging active travel to/from school. All students will have a Walk or Wheel “WOW” Passport in their classroom. During the week students will be able to record their walking or wheeling trips on their passports. Children will get stickers and spot prizes later in the week.

Not only does walking or wheeling to school reduce congestion and chaos at the gate, we also get to slow down and get some quality time with our tamariki. If you live ‘too far away’ why not Park and Stride the last 500m or so and you still get all the benefits of active travel and also get your passport stamped at the gate.

Wednesday 22 September is International Car Free Day and what better way to mark it than choosing to walk or wheel to school. Every child that walks, bikes, scoots, pogo sticks, skips or dances to school goes in the draw to win a special privilege and a small prize pack.

Amesbury Speech Competition

As you know the Amesbury Speech Competition planned for this term was postponed due to our change in alert levels. Not one to be deterred, Natalie has rescheduled it for next term (Term 4).

Natalie wanted to provide everyone with a heads up to make sure that all children had plenty of time to prepare their speeches.

While the exact dates have not yet been finalised, the heats will be held early in Term 4 with with the finals being held before the end of Week 6 to avoid any clashes with the school camps in Week 7.

Swimming Sports for Years 0-3

The swimming sports for all Year 0-3 students - whether in Harakeke or Koru Hubs - will be held in Week 5 next term (Thursday 18 November).

All of the information is set out in the Swimming Sports article.

Please complete this form by the Friday 1st of October 2021.

Construction Site Fence Mural

Onaitta is organising a group of kids to paint a mural on the fence around the new build construction site. Apart from turning an ugly fence into a work of art for the next year or so, the mural will also be entered into the Resene Mural Competition.

You can play your part by bringing in any spare paint that you have lying around. Preferably please have your child drop it into the office. If you bring it in yourself please scan or sign in. Please note that the paint needs to be appropriate for external use.
