Our level 4 lockdown will continue until Friday. On Friday, there will be an announcement about any potential alert level shift. We will be back in touch with our community after this announcement, once we know more.

Thank you to whānau who came onsite today to pick up learning resources for your tamariki. You helped to keep us all safe by following all guidelines and keeping encounters as brief and safe as possible. By following the time slots given, and staggering visits onsite, we had a slow steady flow of parents collecting resources, rather than large lines of people. This made it much easier and safer for everyone, ka pai - well done everyone! A special thanks to the teachers who came onsite during level 4 and worked extremely hard to make the process as smooth and safe as possible. Hopefully having devices and books at home will make home learning easier for families. Please note that as we are still in alert level 4, staff will now not be back onsite at school until we move to level 3.

You will have received a home learning message from your child’s whānau teacher on Sunday 22nd, detailing the learning that is available for ākonga (students) for the coming week. As part of this learning pack, your child will have been given an invitation to two online small group conferences - a learning discussion and a social check in. These invitations are not mandatory, but they are available to enable your child to connect with friends and kaiako (teachers) at school.

For as long as we remain at alert 4, these weekly learning packs will continue. The learning packs will also remain throughout alert level 3, which is when the majority of ākonga will continue to learn from home where possible, and children who cannot learn from home will be able to learn onsite. In order to allow us to begin to prepare for a move into alert level 3, please complete this short form to indicate if your tamariki will need to learn onsite during alert level 3. If your tamariki will be able to continue learning from home, you do not need to complete this form.

Changes in timing for school events

Please note that a number of school events have needed to be postponed due to our move to level 4. The following events have all been rescheduled, and we will confirm new dates for each event once we know more about alert levels:

  • Term 3 Mihi Whakatau (school welcome) - rescheduled when we return to level 1

  • Term 3 New Parent Session - rescheduled when we return to level 1

  • ICAS Science Exam - rescheduled for Tues 19th October

  • Co-curricular lessons for Weeks 4 and 5 - rescheduled (where possible) when we return to level 2

  • Four Year Old Programme - rescheduled when we return to level 2

We had a Staff Only Day organised with other local schools in our Kāhui Ako for Friday 27th August. That day has been cancelled. There may well be other school events that will need to be changed, depending on alert levels; we will keep the community updated about these as we go.

We now ask our community to continue doing the right thing: stay at home and stay in your bubble; only leave for essentials or for exercise; wear a mask if you go outside. Keep an eye on the continually updated locations of interest from our current outbreak, especially the locations here in Wellington and Johnsonville. If you have been at any location of interest within the given timeframe, please isolate and follow the instructions for that location on the Ministry of Health website.

Just as a reminder, please remember that our school buildings and grounds are all closed during level 4. There should not be any use of school grounds, including both playgrounds, during lockdown. If you see any unauthorised use of our school grounds, you can report it here. Thank you for your help and support with this.

If you have any questions about any of the information in this article, please contact your child’s whānau teacher and they will be happy to help you.

Ki a haumaru te noho - Stay safe. Hopefully we will see you all again soon.

Warm regards, Urs Cunningham and the Amesbury team
