Collecting Chromebooks and books from school for home learning

By: Urs Cunningham | Posted Thursday August 19, 2021

On Monday 23rd August parents will be able to come and collect their child’s Chromebook from school (for ākonga in Harakeke and Pōhutukawa Hubs) or collect a set of junior reading books (for ākonga in Koru Hub). The current lockdown timeframe takes us through until 11:59pm on Tuesday 24th, but we are unsure of how long we will stay in various alert levels, so we are taking this step to distribute devices and books now that we are able to do so.

In order to meet all Ministry of Health requirements, the process for contactless pick up of learning resources will be very specific:

- The single point of entry will be through the side entrance to Harakeke Hub (where the carpet is pink), opposite the library entrance. People will exit through different doors.

- A mask must be worn in order to enter the building. Masks and gloves will also be worn by all teachers preparing and distributing resources.

- Chromebooks will be distributed in Mawhero (pink carpet) and sets of reading books will be distributed in Kikorangi (blue carpet). Exit from the hub will be through separate doors in either space.

- Only one adult is to come and collect resources. Please do not bring your child/ren with you. If this is likely to make it very difficult for you, please contact us and we will make alternate arrangements to ensure you can collect what you need safely.

- Please do not come onsite if you show any signs of sickness

- You will be asked to scan in using the QR code app as you enter. Alternatively you can sign in manually.

In order to keep all community members safe and avoid crowds gathering, we will separate collection of resources into time slots:

- Students with a last name starting with A - H can have resources collected between 10 - 11 am

-Students with a last name starting with I - Q can have resources collected between 11 - 12 pm

- Students with a last name starting with R - Z can have resources collected between 12 - 1 pm

We ask that people please stick to these times in order to make the process safe and manageable for everyone.

Please note that we only have permission for one access slot at school, and we will not be able to enter school again at a different time until our lockdown is lifted, except under extreme conditions such as a fire or flood. If you are unable to pick up resources during this time, you will need to wait until school reopens again to collect resources.

Resources that can be collected at this time:

- School Chromebook for all children in Harakeke and Pōhutukawa Hubs

- Small set of reading books at their current reading level for children in Koru Hub, if you have completed the form sent out on Friday to indicate you want this. Here is the form link again, in case you need it.

- Any family who would like their child to have a book for writing and learning in at home can collect a book to take home for each of their children

We will be preparing resources for pick up on Monday morning. We ask that parents and caregivers do not come to school before 10am, to give us time to set up for a smooth and contactless collection system. Thank you for your help with this.

We hope that taking home some resources will help with the home learning process.

Warm regards, the Amesbury team.
