Year 5 & 6 South Island Camp Information #2

The Year 5 and 6 camp will take place from Monday 2 December - Friday 6 December 2019 (Week 8, Term 4). The location for this camp is Teapot Valley, Nelson. Here is a link to their website.

Travel: We will travel to and from Teapot Valley by ferry and bus.

On Monday 2 December, we will travel on an Interislander ferry (Kaitaki) from Wellington to Picton. All students need to be at the Interislander ferry terminal by 7:15am as we need to board the ferry by 7:30am (before the general public). The ferry will depart Wellington at 8:45am and arrive in Picton at 12:15pm. We will then travel by bus to Teapot Valley with a stop in Pelorus.

On Friday 6 December, we will travel by bus from Teapot Valley to the Interislander ferry terminal in Picton. The ferry will depart Picton at 2:15pm and arrive in Wellington at 5:45pm. Please check the Interislander website for up to date information on our expected arrival time.

Camp Programme: Activities have been planned with the Teapot Valley camp coordinators to ensure the activities are age and ability appropriate. Below is the outline of the activities planned.

Monday - Travel by ferry and bus to Teapot Valley; camp orientation and settling in

*Please send your child with both morning tea and lunch today as this will not be provided at camp on Monday. We would also appreciate it if your child could bring baking, a bag of chips or a bag fruit for shared morning and afternoon teas throughout the week. Please make sure this is in their main bag as we will collect it in when we get to camp.

Tuesday - Rotations: archery, slug guns, confidence course, climbing, orienteering, abseiling, damper cooking, carts; free time and evening activities

Wednesday - Day trip to Abel Tasman National Park; evening activities

Thursday - Rotations: archery, slug guns, confidence course, climbing, orienteering, abseiling, damper cooking, carts; free time and evening activities

Friday - Camp pack up and final clean, travel by bus and ferry to Wellington

*All activities will have the required number of adults monitoring students and camp instructors as necessary.

Camp Payment: Thank you all for making the payments.

Please note your child will not need any money for this trip as all activities will be at camp. Your child will also not need a mobile phone. If you would like to contact your child, please feel free to send a text message to one of the teachers who are on camp and we will get back to you when we are able to. Medical: Thank you all for giving us the necessary medical details for your child. If any of these details, including medication and dietary requirements, have changed since you filled out the form, please send the updated information to Kalesha (kalesha@amesbury.school.nz) by Thursday of Week 7 (28 November 2019). Also, please ensure all medication is safely packed in your child’s main bag as we will collect all medication once we are settled at camp.

Adults on camp: We have eight adults staying at the camp for the whole week - Lisa, Kalesha, Andy, Amaria, Demelza, Rob Gould, Mary Jane Robiony-Rogers and TP Katene.

Contact Information: The main contact person for this camp will be Lisa or Demelza. Kalesha, Andy and Amaria will be the next point of contact. Please be aware that we will be very busy over the duration of camp, so the best way to contact us is via text, as this means we can pick the messages up when we are able to.
