Homestay for International Students

By: Angela Johnston | Posted Thursday May 2, 2019

We are lucky to have a number of international students participating in a short visit to Amesbury School for the first two weeks of Term 3.  These students and their accompanying parent are needing a friendly and safe homestay to live in.  We have single students and their parent, and also 2 siblings and their parent.

Thanks for the families who are already involved, however, we need a few more.  If you are able to be involved in this opportunity please read the details below and contact   international@amesbury.school.nz.

If you're looking to pick up another language, experience another culture, encourage acceptance in your children, or simply get a new perspective on everyday life, then hosting international students might be the perfect choice for you!

Becoming a host family is also a great way to be more involved in our community, and support our school’s multiculturalism and internationalisation.

Specifically, Amesbury School will be hosting some short-term international students for the first 2 weeks of Term 3 (22 July -2 August) this year. Our international students are accompanied by one of their parents during the stay.

As a host, you will need to provide:

  • a separate bedroom for child and parent to share

  • a desk, chair, heater and light

  • wifi

  • 3 meals a day

for which you will receive a generous weekly payment

Before being matched with students, families are vetted by our school and police.

There are also other opportunities at other times during the year to host. However, hosting a student and their parent for a short-term stay can be a good way to see if hosting suits your family.

If you'd like to welcome a student into your family and think you meet the above criteria, please feel free to email our International Co-ordinator via international@amesbury.school.nz

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Zoe or Angela.

Many thanks!
