Holi - the Festival of Colour

Last week was actually Holi - the Festival of Colour.  However, out of respect, as is the custom in Indian cultures, the celebration was put on hold in solidarity with Aotearoa’s Muslim Community.

To celebrate Holi this year, students will learn about the triumph of good over evil that this colourful celebration commemorates and they will also participate in a Colour Run. The library will also have Holi activities running throughout the week.

The Colour Run will be held at school before lunch-time (12.40pm) on Friday (29 March). To prepare for the colour run students need dress up in their favourite colour on Friday . Students can choose to wear their favourite school shirt colour or another item e.g. a jacket or hoodie that are their chosen colour.

Hosting International Students

If you think you may be interested in hosting international students for a short while or for even longer please read the attached article

Library Books

Just a little reminder from the library to return your library books - we have a lot overdue at the moment so would be good to have them returned ASAP.

Books are issued for 3 weeks at a time. If you would like them renewed please go and see Chrissy in the library on Tuesday or Wednesday and she will help with that.

Entertainment Books

The 2019/20 Entertainment Book is now available for pre-order. See the link or the attachment below to find out how to obtain your copy.

Not only do you get tremendous discounts on a wide range of products and services, you are supporting the school at the same time.

Pedal Ready

Pedal Ready is all done and dusted for another year - well almost.

ACC who are co-sponsors of the programme which the school received for free are looking to compare accident rates between those who participated and those who didn't and they need your help to achieve that.

If your child was a part of the Pedal Ready programme please go to this website  https://www.bikeready.govt.nz/acc-research-participation-childrenyouth-aged-15-or-under-on-road/ , read the "read more" section and, if you are happy to participate, sign up.

Lost and Found

Please check photos and see Rachel at the office if any of these items belong to you. There are also socks, socks and more socks...

Only un-named items are held at the office. Any named items 'found' are returned to the student or their hub.

We also have a lost book pictured below. Is it yours?

Community Notices

Mary Potter Hospice

Mary Potter Hospice are holding their 2019 Annual Street Appeal in May and are looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested please refer to the link or read the attachment below.

Churton Park Multicultural Fair 2019

The Churton Park Community Association is holding its Multicultural Fair on Saturday 20 April between 12-3 pm, at Amesbury School Hall. The programme is building fast, but they would still like to hear from people who could offer a short performance or an exhibit that celebrates their traditional culture. This could be through music, dance, food, costume or craft. Please send your ideas to brian.sheppard@icloud.com

This colourful event is fun for the whole family. It helps us to appreciate the richness of the cultural roots of our community and extends our spirit of neighbourliness to our new residents.
