Emergency Drill: Lock-Down

By: John Murrihy | Posted Friday March 15, 2019

Our sincerest thoughts are with those affected by the horrific attacks in Christchurch today. We stand with our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, who said, "This is not who we are." To any in our community personally affected by this tragedy, we are so deeply sorry. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Just yesterday, a mere 24 hours before lock-downs were imposed on a number of Christchurch schools as a result of the attacks, Amesbury School held an Emergency Lock-Down Drill. The first photos below show children in their normal learning environment, followed by their actions after the drill has commenced, and the final photo is of the debriefing that took place at the conclusion of the drill.

Because these situations can happen at any time, we hold a number of emergency drills throughout the year covering a range of scenarios.  We want to assure you that we consider the safety of your children as our highest priority.

While we will continue to hold various emergency situation drills throughout the rest of the year, we think this could be an opportune moment for you to talk to your child/ren about yesterday's emergency drill in relation to the lock-downs in Christchurch to illustrate why these drills are so important.
