Amesbury School Adventure Playground

After consideration of the many options available, the Amesbury School Board of Trustees is pleased to have confirmed plans and costs for an adventure playground that offers the desired level of complexity and challenge for all ages, including youth aged 9 years plus.

Different plans and play equipment options were considered a year ago, but as they didn’t provide the level of challenge sought, a decision was made to go back to the drawing board.

The playground layout and play equipment that have been selected were designed in collaboration with Moorhead & Newdick Landscape Architects Ltd and Playco Playgrounds, and the equipment has been chosen specifically to include levels of difficulty, encourage mental and physical agility, and develop core and upper body strength.

Hayes Landscaping who did the landscape build when the school was first built, and did the wetlands and boardwalk, will also be doing the site works for the playground.

In addition to the BoT contribution, fundraising and the successful grant of $20,000 from Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, further applications totalling $86,000 have been submitted to various Trusts requesting the balance of funding required for the playground purchase and installation.  We eagerly await notification which is due by mid August.

We would like to thank the following for supporting this project and contributing to our funding applications with letters of endorsement.

  • Churton Park Community Association
  • Churton Park Community Centre
  • Churton Park Guardian First National REAA
  • Churton Park New World
  • Wellington City Council - Parks, Sports and Recreation

We look forward to the construction of this new resource for our school and community, and will keep you updated as we progress.
