Tēnā koutou,
As most of you know, at Amesbury School, we are proud of the incredible abundance of cultures present in our community and we endeavour to celebrate and honour them the best we can. This year, we are very excited to run our Cultural Festival as an opportunity to showcase the beautiful cultures present in our school. The festival is confirmed for Friday 10 November (Week 5 of Term 4) as we reach the end of the school year.
For this event, we are hoping to offer a range of cultural samples such as dances, songs, educational stalls, and food from as many countries as possible. Since you hold the expertise, we are reaching out to all our whānau to support in any way possible. Please know that we are very aware that your time is very valuable and we will be happy to have your support in any way you are able to provide it.
Some of the ways in which you could help are:
Coming to school to teach a song or dance to a group of tamariki so they can perform on the day.
Come to school to share your expertise about your country with a group of tamariki for them to pass this knowledge to the community during the event.
Lend traditional clothing that our ākonga can wear on the day.
Lend traditional artefacts to create an educational stall about a particular country.
Donate some traditional food on the day of the event.
At this stage, we don't have a definite number of countries that would be present in the festival as this will depend on the responses we get from you (the community) and the interests that the kids would like to pursue.
If you feel that this is something you would like to take part in or if you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact me in person or at gina@amesbury.school.nz
I will be looking forward to hearing from you,
Ngā mihi nui,
Na Gina Quintero
